Should students be allowed to use smart phones?

【答案】Should students be allowed to use smart phones?

Now smart phones are so common among middle school students. They are so useful and interesting that many students are addicted to them.

Although smart phones may have a bad influence on students, I don't think parents should stop their children from using them. If students are forced to stop using them, they may become rebellious and secretly use them more.

Instead, parents can find some wiser ways to help their children use smart phones properly. For example, students can use smart phones to share learning experience with their classmates.

IG, a Chinese esports club, won the world championship title in LOL (League of Legends) in 2018. It beat European team 3:0 in South Korea. It was the first time that a club from China’s LPL (League of Legends Pro League) won the title in the world championship’s eight-year history. So what is esports?

Esports (Electronic Sports) is a form of competition using video games between professional players. It is not only a simple game in a sense, but a sport in which players use electronic equipment to play against each other in intelligence. It can improve the players’ thinking ability, heart-to-eye coordination (協(xié)調(diào)), willpower and develop team spirit.

In 2003, esports became the 99th sport in China. However, esports is different from traditional sports and online games. Traditional sports athletes mainly train their physical ability and skills, such as muscle memory, exercising and dieting; while esports athletes’ training is mostly about the mind, such as studying strategies (策略) and new updates for the game.

The industry has been developed for more than 10 years, but the public usually hold the opinion that playing online games has no benefit but taking one’s attention away from their duties. In fact, there are several differences between esports and online games

First, the basic features. Online games are entertainment games while esports is a sport. Esports is an intellectual competition between people in an organized environment created by information technology.

Second, the game rules. Esports has clear game rules. Its biggest feature is strict time and round limitations. However, online games are lack of clear rules of the game. Without time limit, it’s easy for people especially teenagers to be addicted to (沉迷于) it.

Third, the sports spirit. Esports competitions between athletes pay great attention to fair sports spirit. Some online games only need to recharge (充錢) to gain advantages, which is the main difference between esports and online games.

In the upcoming 2022 Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, esports will officially become a medal event. Esports is a new sporting activity. It will take a long time to grow into a mature industry like NBA (the National Basketball Association of the US). Let’s have a better understanding of esports and expect its bright future.

【題目】The Sixth Time I Went to the Principal’s Office

When I was in the seventh grade, I had problems behaving. My heart was in the right place, but I

couldn’t always follow the rules. I played many tricks on my schoolmates. Once, I even pulled a girl’s hair

on the school bus to get her attention. As a result, I was repeatedly sent to the office of the principal(校長).

Although I hated going there, I did not hate the principal, Mr. Ratcliff.

Mr. Ratcliff was a kind, elderly man. When he spanked( 打屁股) me for putting some ants into a

classmate’s pencil box, it didn’t hurt at all, but it did hurt my feelings. I thought so much of him and

moments like that seemed to prove I was hopelessly bad.

When I got called to Mr. Ratcliff’s office for the sixth time, I had no idea what I had done. I felt

disappointed as I walked down there. I went into his office, sat down, and looked at the floor. Then he said

the last thing I expected to hear:” Kevin, I’ve heard you’ve been behaving really well lately. I want you to

know how proud I am of you, and I just called you down to my office to give you a peppermint.”

“Really?” I was surprised.

“Yes. Now you can take that peppermint and go back to class.”

I carried the peppermint with me as if it was a gold coin. When I got into my classroom, I bragged ( 吹噓) to my classmates about my turnaround, excitedly. I wasn’t so bad after all.

Mr. Ratcliff was really kind. He made me realize that I was just a kid who had problems with behavior. He bought some peppermints and took the time to notice me when I got something-anything-right. Mr.Ratcliff gave me some hope by giving me some love. I will just remember him for the rest of my life.

1In his seventh grade, the writer __________.

2How did the writer feel when he went to the principal’s office for the sixth time?
