【題目】 One cannot discuss Chinese music without mentioning the Chinese seven - string zither(七弦琴), also known as the guqin, one of the four arts — along with go, calligraphy and painting. It first appeared over 3,000 years ago and represents China’s solo musical instrument tradition.
At first, the guqin had only five strings, representing the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Later, in the Zhou dynasty, King Wen of Zhou added a sixth string for his son. King Wu of Zhou, added a seventh string to encourage his army to fight with the Shang.
Ambience(環(huán)境氣氛) was important in playing the Chinese zither. Usually, it was practiced in quiet setting and never for public performance.
Ancient artists enjoyed performing by a stream in the mountains. The sound of the guqin mixed with the echoes(回音) from the mountains, until the musician found himself at one with nature. Playing it in snow was also a favorite pastime for ancient artists, who believed the instrument was the purest of its kind in the world. Also, a night with moonlight was considered ideal for playing the guqin. Wang Wei(701-761), a highly talented man of the Tang dynasty, liked playing it in a bamboo forest on nights with moonlight most.
Guqin pieces are usually around three to eight minutes long, with the longest being Guangling Verse, which is 22 minutes long. Other famous pieces include Plum Blossoms in Three Movements, Wild Geese Landing on the Sandbank and Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute.
Now, there are fewer than one thousand well - trained guqin players and perhaps no more than fifty living masters. The original number of several thousand pieces has greatly reduced to only a hundred works by today. The guqin and its music was added to the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity(人類非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)) in 2003.

【題目】 Rivers are one of our most important natural resources(自然資源). Many of the world’s great cities are located on rivers, and almost every country has at least one river flowing through it that plays an important part in the lives of its people.
Since the beginning of history, people have used rivers for transportation. The longest one in the United States is the Mississipi. The lifeline of Egypt is Nile. To the people of India, the Ganges is great, but it is also important for transportation; ships can travel along it for a thousand miles. Other great rivers are the Congo in Africa and the Mekong in Southeast Asia. The greatest of all for navigation(航海), however, is the Amazon in Brazil(巴西). It is so wide and so deep that large ships can go about two thousand miles upon it.
Besides transportation, rivers give food to eat, water to drink, water for crops, and chances for fun and recreation for the people who live along their banks. In order to increase the supply of water for crops, engineers sometimes build a dam(大壩) across a river and let a lake form behind the dam. Then people can use the water not only to irrigate(灌溉) their fields but also to make electricity for their homes and industries. However, large cities and industries that are located upon rivers often make problems. As the cities grow in size and industries increase in number, the water in the rivers becomes polluted with chemicals and other materials. People are learning the importance, however, of doing more to keep their rivers clean if they want to enjoy the benefits(利益) of this natural resource.

【題目】閱讀短文,回答問題
Why Alice is still wonderful
Have you ever read the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland? When British writer Lewis Carroll dropped Alice down the rabbit hole in 1865, he had no way of knowing what it would lead to (how popular it would be). The girl and her friends in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland have become well-known around the world. More than 100 versions of the book have been published. More than two dozen adaptations of the story have been made into movies. Millions of people are fascinated by the story and the characters in it.
Why have Alice and her friends kept us fascinated with them for so long? Why is the story so attractive?
One reason is that many people think the 7-year-old girl is our inner child. She is the child that we ever dreamed to be. Alice is the center of the book. She's brave, curious and always wants to move ahead to the next adventure. When she meets problems or even is attacked, she never once thinks of asking her parents for help. Instead, she tries to solve the problem in her own way. Maybe this can explain why the story is so welcomed by kids and teenagers. Because nowadays, they have been over protected by their parents and can't live in a world of their own. Alice is the child they really want to be.
Besides, the attractive setting in the book is another reason. The story is set in an imaginative world. Many things that don't exist in the real world can be found in the story. In the book, Alice can be 3 inches (7.6cm) tall and stand up on her tiptoes. She even finds a blue caterpillar smoking on a mushroom. Kids and teenagers are really attracted by the strange and imaginative world in the story.
The wonderland world makes us connect Alice's adventures with our own childhood. No matter how old you are, there is always a child living in your heart.
【1】Who is the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written by?
【2】How many versions of the story have been published?
【3】Why is the story so attractive?
【4】Does the story make us think of our own childhood or adulthood?
【5】What's the passage mainly about?
