【題目】 Are you good with money? Do you get pocket money from your parents or do you work to make money? Read on to find out about British teenagers and their money!
Pocket money
Most teenagers in Britain receive pocket money from their parents. They might have to do the housework to get their pocket money. The housework can include cleaning, cooking, washing dishes and ironing.
Part-time work
A part-time job is a choice for teenagers don't have pocket money or who want to make extra(額外的)money. About 15 percent of teenagers have a job. Only children over the age of 13 can work. Popular part-time jobs for teens include babysitting, delivering(投遞)newspaper, shop work and restaurant work.
Children in Britain can work at most two hour a day on a school day but not during school hours. During weekends and school holidays, they can work longer hours.
Bank account(賬戶)
Some children and teenagers have a bank account. A bank manager can decide whether to open an account for a child or young person. Parents can put pocket money directly into their child's bank account. Most banks have a prepaid(預(yù)付的)bank card designed for young people.
So, many teenagers are getting experience working part-time, dealing with banks and deciding whether to save or spend their money. These are all steps towards becoming a financially(財(cái)政上) independent person and making and looking after your own money.

【題目】閱讀下面的材料,然后根據(jù)材料內(nèi)容回答所提問題。
A lady and her husband walked into the president of Harvard’s outer office. “We want to see the president,” the lady said softly. Looking at the couple who wears usual clothes, the secretary said, “He’ll be busy all day.” “We’ll wait,” the lady replied.
For hours, the secretary did nothing for them, hoping that they would finally go away. They didn’t. “Maybe if they just see you for a few minutes, they’ll leave,” the secretary finally told the president.
The president looked down at the couple. The lady told him, “We had a son that had studied in Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. But he was accidentally killed. And my husband and I would like to build something for him in Harvard. “Madam,” the president said angrily, “we can’t put up a statue(雕像) for every person who attended Harvard and died.”
“Oh, no,” the lady explained quickly, “we mean we would give a building to Harvard.” The president looked at their usual clothes, and then said, “A building! Do you know how much a building costs? It took us over seven and a half million dollars to build Harvard.”
The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, “Is that all it costs to start a university?” Her husband nodded. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California where they built a university with their name—a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.
How are we supposed to treat others who can do nothing for us? Don’t judge a person by his appearance.

【題目】 Do you “worship” your parents?
After I came to China, I started hearing the word “xiaoshun” a lot. It is often translated into English as “filial piety”. However, I think the translation “parent worship” is easier to understand. The basic idea behind “parent worship” is that children should always listen to their parents and do everything they can to make their parents happy.
I think many Chinese people I know would agree with the idea. I guess it is a nice idea, in theory(理論上). But I also have some Chinese friends who would disagree. This is because they have had to do things they didn’t want to, just because their parents told them to_______For example, one of my good friends had to break up with her boyfriend because her parents thought he didn’t make enough money. “孝順”似乎有時(shí)候也是不公平的。
Most kids in the US, especially teenagers, would probably disagree with “parent worship”, too. In fact, arguing with one’s parents and being rebellious (叛逆的) is common for US teens. 我經(jīng)常與我的父母就家規(guī)進(jìn)行爭論,而且我也不總是遵守那些規(guī)矩。
I think the best way is somewhere in the middle. Most, if not all of us, love our parents and try our best to respect(尊重) them. So of course we should follow their rules and try not to stress them out (使緊張). On the other hand, parents should respect their kids as well and give them some reasonable freedom and independence.

Cooking was once regarded as a necessary part of education. But in recent years, it has become less important in schools. As a result, basic cooking and food preparation skills are being lost. It is also making more children overweight, as parents use too much fast food is harmful to their health.
The government is worried and is looking for ways to solve the problem. A new law has been made. It requires all secondary schools (中學(xué))to offer cooking lessons to students aged from 11 to 14 years old. They hope that this will encourage people to cook instead of eating ready meals, fast food and snacks.
Students will learn to cook twice a week. They will learn to use simple and fresh ingredients to prepare healthy, tasty food, following instructions. Schools are also setting up cooking clubs all over the country. The clubs will provide more children with the chance to learn to cook. The children can learn to cook many kinds of food in the clubs.
There are still difficulties. Head teachers are worried about the things they will need for the cooking. And about 15% of schools do not have kitchens and there are not enough teachers.
The speaker from the government promises to train 800 teachers and to give schools million pounds a year to help children from poorer families to pay for ingredients.
