【題目】It is less and less possible for moderns to have enough sleep because of the busy school or work life. Sleeping without worries about waking up too eary and enjoying wonderful dreams are like “ the castle in the sky” for many people; not everyone can get it. A study shows that only Americans sleep more than seven hours each day over surveying many countries, such as Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, etc. It is said that people over 20 should get seven hours of sleep each night and those under 20, one more hour of sleep. Sleeping less than six hours a night can make one get sick easily, lose his/her attention at school or at work and leave one 12% more likely to die before 65 years old. But sleeping too much is not good for one, either. Sleeping longer than nine hours a night can make one 30% more likely to die before 65.

If moderns cannot have enough sleep every day, he/she needs to learn at least how to sleep better. Here are some tips.

Move TVs and computers out of your bedroom.

Don’t play cellphones or use a computer before bed.

Don’t sleep with pets.

Keep exercising for thirty minutes three or four times in the morning or afternoon a week.

Keep one’s bedroom cool and listen to soft music before bed.

It goes without saying sleeping enough is important, and so is sleeping well. After all, if one gets insomnia because of poor sleep and cannot sleep well, one will feel tired and worried during the daytime!

1What do we learn about the reading?

A. Taiwanese sleep longer than Americans.

B. All of the people in the world except Americans have enough sleep.

C. People who sleep longer than nine hours may have more chances to die before 65 than those who sleep less than 6 hours.

D. All the people from different ages should sleep more than eight hours a day.

2Which way can help us get better sleep according to the reading above?

A. Listen to popular songs and make one’s room warm.

B. Make one’s puppy sleep in another place, not in his/her bedroom.

C. Exercise for half an hour before bed three or four times a week.

D. Clean the computer at the bedroom before sleeping.

3Which is true according to this article?

A. Moderns would like to sleep without worries.

B. People under 20 need to sleep for 7 hours.

C. Not only busy work but busy school is very important in modern life.

D. “ It” means building a castle in the sky is never possible.

4What is “ insomnia” ?

A. the sound one makes while sleeping.

B. being difficult to fall asleep.

C. worries about sleeping too much.

D. useful ways to help people to have good sleep.

There are many libraries in Britain. Let's learn something about them.

Public libraries

Most towns in Britain have a public library. A library usually has a large selection of books and other resources, which library members can use and borrow for free.

Britain’s First Public Library

The first Britain’s public library opened in Manchester in 1852. Its first librarian was a man called Edward Edwards. Edwards attended the library’s opening ceremony and two famous writers called Charles Dickens and William Thackeray were there, too.

Services of library

Modern public libraries have something for everyone. Most of them have audio books, CDs, newspapers and DVDs as well as books to borrow.

How to Join a Library

To join a library, go to your local library and fill in a form. You'll receive a library card which is needed when using library services.

Mobile Libraries

Not everyone can get to a library. Some people live far away from towns and cities. Other people find it difficult to go out because they have an illness or a disability. Thanks to mobile libraries, these people can still borrow books.

The libraries are special. Unlike most libraries, which store books in buildings, mobile libraries usually keep their books in a mini-bus. The back of the mini-bus has shelves for the books, and it is big enough for borrowers to step inside and look around. A driver take the mini-bus to a certain place at a certain time, so people know when to expect it. They can return their books and borrow some more.

All Aboard the Library!

A school in London didn't have space for a library inside the building. However, everybody agreed that it was still important to have a school library So, the head of the school, Graham Blake, decided to park an old bus on the school car park and change it into a library. Pupils helped to paint the bus, and after eight months, the new library was ready.

【題目】Alice is a college student and in her internship(實習(xí)期)now. Last month, she bought a scarf which she really liked. It cost her more than 50 dollars. It’s not cheap, but it made her happy, because she had dreamed of having one for a long time.

Every morning, when she puts on her new scarf, she feels so happy that it seems the whole day is full of hope. Alice has been used to rewarding (獎勵)herself through shopping. This hobby also drives her to work hard and makes her life keep getting better.

But her mother, Mrs. Miller thinks quite differently. When Mrs. Miller knew the price of Alice’s new scarf, they started to argue with each other and the argument (爭執(zhí))lasted for almost a whole day. Her mother thought that she shouldn't spend so much money on it, while Alice thought her mother didn't understand her at all.

But Alice didn't know that her mother’s life was very hard. When Mrs. Miller was very young, she could not find enough clothes to wear in winter. She needed to learn how to spend every penny(便士,貨幣單位)as if it were two so that she could survive(生存).

It ’ s just natural that two people can’t understand each other because they have different experiences. Then, how can we change the situation? Try to be patient with the people around you. Try to get to know them. And try to stand in their shoes. If Alice follows the advice,I think she will get on well with her mother.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答下列問題。

1How much did the scarf cost Alice?

2How has Alice been used to rewarding herself?

3When did Mrs. Miller start to argue with Alice?

4Did Alice’s mother have an easy life when she was young?

5How many pieces of advice does the writer give Alice?
