【題目】Detective Lu told us the victim was last seen _______ his office at about 7 p.m. yesterday.

A.leaveB.leftC.leavingD.to leave

【答案】C

【解析】

句意:陸偵探告訴我們,受害者最后一次被看到是在昨天晚上7點(diǎn)左右離開他的辦公室。

考查現(xiàn)在分詞作主語補(bǔ)足語。leave動(dòng)詞原形;left過去式和過去分詞;leaving動(dòng)名詞,現(xiàn)在分詞;to leave動(dòng)詞不定式;see sb. do 看見某人做某事,目睹了某人做某事的全過程;see sb. doing 看見某人正在做某事,它的語句環(huán)境是“主語對(duì)象”恰巧看到了某人正在實(shí)施某事,強(qiáng)調(diào)的是看見的這么一個(gè)動(dòng)作,是一個(gè)瞬間發(fā)生的事情;根據(jù)“at about 7 p.m. yesterday”可知是那個(gè)時(shí)間發(fā)生的事情,所以用doing;結(jié)合“was last seen”可知是被動(dòng)語態(tài),所以此處是缺doing,故選C。

【題目】 Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus began in Wuhan in Dec 2019, China has mobilized (調(diào)動(dòng)) the power of the whole country. Now, epidemic (疫情) control and prevention efforts are starting to take effect.

According to a key meeting held on Feb 21, the spread of the epidemic is being contained. On Feb 24, mainland areas outside of Hubei reported nine new infections (感染), the first single— digit (個(gè)位數(shù)) increase in weeks, according to the National Health Commission.

Vaccine (疫苗) development is also progressing. Some vaccines have been tested on animals, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology. “If vaccine development is compared to building a house, we have laid the foundation (地基) and the building is starting to emerge (出現(xiàn)) from the ground,” Zeng Yixin, deputy director of the National Health Commission, said to China Daily.

However, the turning point of the epidemic is yet to come. After millions of people return to work in major cities, the number of new infections should be kept low for two weeks. This is expected to be a turning point in China, according to the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. But the situation in Hubei is still serious.

The situation outside of China is concerning. As of 4 pm on Feb 27, the total number of confirmed (確診) infections in South Korea had risen to 1,766, Xinhua reported. Italy had reported 470 confirmed cases as of Feb 26, as well as 12 deaths. Singapore, Japan and Iran have also found cases.

“The window of opportunity (the best time to contain the outbreak) may be closing,” said WHO Director—General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He called on the international community to act quickly to control the epidemic before the window closes completely.

【題目】 You must still remember Typhoon(臺(tái)風(fēng)) Hato, Pakhar, Mawar and Hurricane(颶風(fēng)) Harvey. These storms have been harming Asia and North America during the last few months in 2017. But have you ever wondered where the names of storms come from?

During World War II, US military (軍隊(duì)的) weathermen named hurricanes after their girlfriends or wives. It was easy to remember. So after the war, women’s names continued to be used for storms. Finally in 1979, men’s names started to be used, too.

Now, the WMO(世界氣象組織) is responsible for(負(fù)責(zé)) hurricane names. They keep six lists of names, with one list used each year. This means each name will be reused every six years. So, the 2011 name list is now being used again in 2017.

However, if a storm is especially damaging (破壞巨大的), such as 2005’s Katrina, that storm’s name will not be used again.

Typhoons are the brother of hurricanes, though they happen in the Pacific Ocean instead of the Atlantic Ocean (where hurricanes usually take place).

The new naming system for typhoons has been used since 2000. The WMO asked each of its 14 members in the Asia Pacific area to hand in a list of 10 names. Members include China, Japan and South Korea.

But instead of picking human names, scientists decided to name typhoons after animals, plants, places and even food.

根據(jù)上面的短文內(nèi)容填空。

1During World War II, a weatherman in the US army would name a hurricane after ___________________________. To him, it was __________________________.

2Now ______________________ is supposed to think of all hurricane names. In 2018, they should use the _________________ name list.

3No storm will be called ________________ any more, as the storm with the same name in 2005 was ___________________________.

4Only the 14 WMO members in ___________________________ are required to prepare names for typhoons. That’s probably because __________________________________.

5This article mainly tells us how __________________________________. We also know scientists now prefer not to use _____________________ to name typhoons.
