While Westerners were getting used to paying with credit cards(信用卡)or bank cards at the very beginning of the 21st century, most Chinese people still liked to pay in cash (paper money) out of habit. However, today, Chinese people may be leading the world in mobile payment, mainly WeChat Pay and Alipay.
Foreigners feel amazed when Chinese people buy everything with their phones. At least, this was the case for Lim Swee Say, Manpower Minister of Singapore.
When Lim was waiting in line to buy some snacks at a street stall(貨攤)in Shanghai, he saw other customers show their phones and take the food without giving over any cash. Soon after, he realized that the customers were using mobile payment. "Singapore is actually backward(落后)" , said Lim
The popularity of mobile payment in China has pushed many foreign countries and agencies to accept them. And several reasons might make this mobile payment spread in the whole world.
● Quite a few Western mobile payment services require businessmen to install(安裝)expensive
machines before customers can use them. While using Chinese mobile payment, all it takes is a QR code(二維碼)and a smart phone.
● Nowadays, almost everyone has a smart phone, even teenagers. And the mobile payment has helped people save the trouble of taking wallets with them. It's not only safer, more convenient, but also environmentally friendly.
● Most shops in China, from a tiny shop in villages to a huge shopping center in big cities, all offer the service of mobile payment. And by the end of last year, Hangzhou Public Transportation System installed the mobile payment machine on 8,000 downtown buses.
● With Chinese travelers throughout the world, it's now common to see the familiar green or blue QR codes in tourist sights around the world.

THE KIDBRIDGE TOLERANCE MUSEUM
Volunteer Opportunity(機(jī)會(huì)) for College Students
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
Our volunteer college students work with small groups of young people to guide them through activities and discussions. Students from different majors(專業(yè)) can learn a lot from our program, especially teacher major. Working with small groups is an excellent way to develop as a new teacher. Many of our visitors have Spanish as a first language, so bilingual(雙語(yǔ)的) teachers are wanted.
TRAINING
No experience is necessary! Have fun working with the young. New volunteers receive training and work with experienced teachers.
TIME COMMITMENT
Field trips take place between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm during the week. Volunteers may work 9:30 am to 11:30 am or 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm, or 9:30 am to 1:30 pm if you like. Volunteers generally attend as often or as little as they prefer.
OTHER WAYS TO VOLUNTEER
Kidsbridge also provides opportunities for students with
specific interests to do research and learn more. Internship (實(shí)習(xí)生) opportunities are available. Volunteering in the Museum also counts as Community Service hours.
College students’ reflections after visiting the Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum:
“It is an experience that can’t be compared to other college classes. I’ve found that sharing time with the kids was not only beneficial to them but a huge benefit to me.”
“Now I know why I want to be a teacher --these children need the best teachers. I learned that you never know what a student is going through, and you may not have the answers. However, if you are the person who that child looks to as different, as a safe place from all of the madness in their lives, then you have opened the door. You can make a world of difference.”
