【題目】 If a friend helps us, it’s a good idea to write him a thank-you note. But in fact, how many of us sit down to do this? “People don’ t seem to walk around giving thanks to people quite often,” Professor Kumar said. Why don’t people like to send thank-you notes? And how do people feel when they get one?

Kumar and his team asked some students to write a thank-you note to another person by email. Then, they asked both the writer and the receiver how sending or getting these notes made them feel. Here is the result.

They found that these writers didn’t like to write the notes because they felt like they had to think too much about them. They worried about what to say and how to say it. The receivers, however felt enjoyable when they got the notes. When you are a receiver, you really care about the warmth of the note, “Kumar says. “How friendly and warm was it?”

Also, the writers didn’t like to write the notes because they thought it might be awkward (尷尬的) for the receiver to get a thank-you note. But in fact, it’s not true. “They feel quite happy,” Kumar says. “They don’t really feel awkward at all.” If people knew that writing a thank-you note could be so important to others, they would do it more often, Kumar says.

【題目】Paula and his noodles with tomato soup

Dear Allen,

How’s it going? I’m in Beijing now, at Beijing International School. I’m in Class 2 with twelve other students. They’re from different countries.

I’m living with a Chinese family. They are very friendly. They like to eat dumplings, noodles and rice. Now I'm very interested in cooking. Yesterday they taught me to make noodles with tomato soup—their favorite food. Now, let me tell you how to make them.

First, cut up some green onions and two tomatoes. Turn on the gas cooker and heat about three teaspoons of oil in a pan. Put in the green onions, then the tomatoes, mix well with the oil and cook for about five minutes. Next pour two bowls of water into the pan and cook for about eight minutes. Then crack two eggs into a bowl, beat it up and pour it slowly into the pan. After one or two minutes, add one teaspoon of salt. Now the soup is OK. Finally, pour the soup over the noodles. It's very delicious! Do you want to have a try?

Write to me soon.
