【題目】
This weekend a marathon ( 馬拉松 ) took place in Salzburg. I admired the runners who ran 42.2 kilometers for over four hours. But I've never run for more than half an hour.
At university I play korfball. This is a team sport with eight people on each team. The aim is to shoot ( 投籃 ) the ball into the hoop. All players get a chance to attack ( 攻 ) and defend ( 守 ) during the game and it's very fast. When I started korfball, I wasn't very good at it. I could throw and catch but I wasn't very fast on my feet. Shooting was also difficult for me. However, I really enjoyed the sport and made friends in the club, so I went training twice a week. Two years later I am in the first team for my university and have played in many matches. This just shows if you train hard, you can succeed.
Running is difficult because you have to make yourself willing to keep going. I used to get really out of breath while running and I didn't feel good at all! Now I actually enjoy going for a run along the river in Salzburg, feeling my muscles ( 肌肉 ) working and breathing in the fresh air.
Challenging exercise is always worth doing. Hiking is fun because all the hard work—walking uphill comes at the beginning of the day, then at the top of the mountain you can enjoy the view. At the end of the day you feel like you've really achieved something.
I will never be a marathon runner, but I would like to try a 10-km run sometime, or perhaps even a half-marathon. How happy the runners were as they crossed the finishing line! I'd like to have that feeling—the months of training paying off as you achieve your goal.

【題目】Small talk
Americans often have short conversations, called small talk, about unimportant things with strangers or people they know but not very well. They may have small talk at parties, while waiting in line at the store, at family events or work. It's a way to say hi and express friendliness.
Small talk is very useful. It can avoid uncomfortable silences and build stronger relationships. For example, when you first meet someone or talk to someone you don't know well, you can break the ice by making small talk. Small talk with a colleague(同事) about his child may help you to understand more of his life outside the office.
In 2013 , researchers from the University of Essex asked some people to make small talk in a study. They found small talk can make people happier. People who talked briefly(短暫地) with a waiter in a coffee shop felt happier than those who simply went in ,ordered and left.
However some people are not good at small talk. Here are some tips to improve your small-talking ability.
Firstly, find common ground. When you have something similar with your speaking partner, that means you have something to talk about.
Secondly, ask open-ended questions. They are suitable(合適的) for small talk. For example, if you ask visitors whether they like your city, they may simply say "Yes. "But if you ask "What do you think of our city," they will have more freedom in how they answer.
Thirdly, become a student. Nobody knows everything. So, as someone is answering one of your open-ended questions, they bring up something about which you know nothing. So, tell them! This lets the other person become the teacher. They feel good about sharing their knowledge and you get to learn something. It's a win-win situation.
Finally, practice makes perfect. Like anything, getting good at making small talk takes practice.
If you make small talk in your native language, you might become happier. If you are making small talk using English, you will most surely improve your speaking and listening skills.

【題目】 During this age of technology, life moves fast and people only focus on what comes next, rather than living in the present. Often their daydreaming is centered on the "next" rather than the "now."
Technology is all about what's next-the next innovation (創(chuàng)新),the next platform or the next device. This is most obvious with the iPhone. The iPhone X has just released, but businessmen and customers are already thinking about the next, newest iPhone. I am already counting the days until I can upgrade my iPhone.
Throughout my adolescence (青春期), almost every single one of my peers have been too wrapped up with the next "great" thing and put too much stress on themselves while losing sense of what is going on now or what they have achieved; it drives me totally crazy. Upon entering high school, I was excited to spend the next four years with my closest friends. Sadly, once I hit my sophomore year (高二), I began to worry about getting into a good college and what I needed to do for that to happen. By concentrating on what's next, I seem to be missing what's great about high school.
Most students in high school look at education as a means to an end; something that will set them up for the next step. Due to this, they pay close attention to the teacher in class, not to enrich their knowledge, but to score high on the test, making them stronger candidates (候選人) for college. What is even more annoying is that universities are now forcing high school students to have a clear idea of what they want to do in life. Most colleges have specialized schools, such as business, nursing and education; in most cases, it is very difficult to switch out of or into one of the specialized schools. Therefore, high schoolers do actually have to focus on what's next.
When I go to college, all I am thinking about is still what comes next; that is, how to land a great job out of college. Everyone around seems to be like me. Actually, I truly hope that people who are in this very similar situation can figure out a way to make the "now" as important, if not more important, than the "next" in life.
Taking all of this into consideration, the concept of what comes next is far too ingrained (根深蒂固的) into important things of life, such as technology and education. If people keep racing from one thing to the next, life will pass them by and in a hurry; no one will be able to look back on what they have experienced or achieved, because life will have become a blur (模糊).

D. Different activities make the students stronger candidates for the college.
【3】The writer probably agrees that .
A. students now care too much about unimportant things in life
B. future achievements depend on your plan in your high school
C. college education usually makes a great difference to most of the people
D. people should live in the "now" rather than only look ahead to the "next"
