【題目】Did you know that you could expect to live almost 20 years longer today than someone who was born 100 years ago?
Thanks to the development of science, life expectancy (預(yù)期壽命) in most countries has been increasing(增加,增長) for ten years. But researchers believe we have finally reached our biological limit (生理極限).
A report in the magazine Nature says it is almost impossible our life expectancy will increase again. The oldest person to ever live was a French woman Jeanne Calment, who was 122 when she died in 1997. The report says she will probably remain the oldest, because it is almost impossible that anyone will live over 115. The “absolute maximum age (絕對最大年齡)” may be 125, according to the report, but it is not very possible that anyone could actually live that long.
Jan Vijg at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York led the research. His team studied the age of people who had died in America, Britain, France and Japan. They found that the age of the oldest people dying had increased regularly between the 1960s and 1990s. But beginning in the 1990s, “you no longer see that,” Vijg told NPR. “You see that it stays the same.”
Of course, many scientists and companies are still trying to find ways to increase our lifespan (壽命) over 125. But there is one simple way to make sure you live a healthy and long life. “Stop smoking, start exercising and eat healthily,” Professor Dame Linda Partridge, told CNN. “What will be will be. It’s only a question of when.”

【題目】Hey girls, if the boys in your class are acting silly, you might as well leave them alone. You are far more sensible than them, aren’t you?
There is science to back up this theory. Scientists from Newcastle University, UK, and Seoul University, South Korea, found that the brain matures (成熟) earlier in girls than in boys. This is partly because of the way children’s brains are “pruned.”
As the brain matures, it begins to cut out unimportant information and focus on important information. This process is called “pruning.”
In order to learn more about this process, scientists scanned the brains of 121 people aged between 4 and 40. They found that pruning began much earlier in girls. Between the ages of 10 and 12, a girl’s brain will start to see a lot of activities as the pruning process starts. But for boys, this doesn’t start until the age of 15 to 20.
During this process, the brain will turn off memories, sounds or sights that appear several times. But important connections, like linking the sound of a familiar person’s voice to their face, are kept.
“The loss of connectivity during brain development can help to improve brain function,” scientist Sol Lim told the Daily Telegraph.
To understand this more easily, imagine you are at a party and everyone is talking. You can’t concentrate. But if you “turn off” some of the voices, it is easier to hear the others. The brain works in a similar way.
【1】What did the scientists find?
A. Boys usually focus on unimportant information.
B. Girls never focus on unimportant information.
C. Girls mature earlier than boys.
D. Connectivity helps improve brain function.
【2】What does the underlined word “pruned”probably mean?
A. 刪減B. 成長C. 改變D. 損失
【3】What happens during the process “pruning”?
A. The brain doesn’t work for a moment.
B. You can’t remember, hear or see.
C. The connections between things disappear.
D. Brains develop to focus on important information.
【4】What can we know from the passage?
A. Boys are more silly than girls.
B. Boys are less sensible than girls.
C. You can never concentrate at the parties.
D. Brains function better after losing some connections.

【題目】The well-known "new great inventions" of modern China have made our daily lives more convenient.
High-speed trains China created its first high-speed railway line in 2008. Since then, the number of passenger trips has grown by over 30 per cent every year. By 2016, more than 5 billion trips had been taken on the trains. By 2020, one-fifth of the country's 150,000-km railway network will be used by the trains. This network will link more than 80 per cent of the major cities across China.
Mobile payment Mobile payment is turning China into a "cashless society". Instead of paying by cash (現(xiàn)金), customers now pay for their goods and some kinds of bills simply by typing a short password into the Alipay or WeChat app on their mobile phone.
Shared bikes China has surprised the world with how quickly shared bikes are widely used. Nowadays, bike users can simply pick up or park the bikes on the street through GPS and smartphone apps. China's two leading bike-sharing companies, Mobike and Ofo, have been opening their overseas markets in Singapore, the UK and the USA.
Online shopping With around 751 million Internet users, China has been the world's largest and fastest-growing online shopping market. Because of lower costs and fewer licensing requirements(執(zhí)照要求), it's easier for sellers to open an online shop in China. In 2016, more than 20 million jobs of rural areas were created, with over 8. 1 million running their own online shops.
