【題目】One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works.

A young couple viewing the paintings ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the wife was doing all the talk. I admired the husband's patience for putting up with (忍受) her continuous talk. Distracted (分心) by their noise, I moved on.

I met with them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous burst of words, I moved away quickly.

I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop buying some souvenirs when the couple came near to the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He extended (延長) it into a long stick and then tapped his way into the coatroom to get his wife's jacket.

"He's a brave man." The salesman at the counter said, "Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery (恢復) he made a promise that his life wouldn't change. So, as before, he and his wife come in whenever there's a new art show."

"But what dose he get out of the art?" I asked, "He can't see."

"Can't see? You're wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do." The salesman said, "His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head."

I learned something about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in hand.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。 We spent a day in the country and picked a lot of flowers. Our car was full of flowers inside! On the way home we had to stop at traffic lights, and there my wife saw the bookshelf. It stood outside a furniture(家具) shop. "Buy it," she said at once. "We'll carry it home on the roof-rack(車頂架). I've always wanted one like that." What could I do? Ten minutes later I was twenty dollars poorer, and the bookshelf was tied on to the roof rack. It was tall and narrow, quite heavy too. As it was getting darker, I drove slowly. Other drivers seemed more polite than usual that evening. The police even stopped traffic to let us through. Carrying furniture was a good idea. After a time my wife said, "There's a long line of cars behind. Why don't they overtake(超車)?" Just at that time a police car did overtake. The two officers(警官) inside looked at us seriously when they went past. But then, with a kind smile they asked us to follow their car through the busy traffic. The police car stopped at our village church(教堂). One of the officers came to me. "Right, sir," he said. "Do you need any more help now?" I didn't quite understand. "Thanks, officer," I said. "You've been very kind. I live just down the road." He was looking at our things: first at the flowers, then at the bookshelf. "Well, well," he said and laughed. "It's a bookshelf you've got there! We thought it was--er, something else." My wife began to laugh. Suddenly I understood why the police drove here. I smiled at the officer. "Yes, it's a bookshelf, but thanks again." I drove home as fast as I could.

B.Other drivers would let him go first.

D.He could save a lot of money and time.
(3)Why were the police and other drivers so kind to the writer?

B.Because they didn't think it was polite to overtake a car with a bookshelf on it.
C.Because they thought somebody in the writer's family had died and he needed help.
D.Because they thought it was dangerous to carry a bookshelf on a car.
(4)When did the officers begin to realize(意識到)they had made a mistake?
A.Before they arrived at the church.
