—Yes. He is very good at playing basketball.

A.tallB.tallerC.tallestD.the tallest

Which topic drew the most attention from people around the world in 2019? It was climate change, according to three well-known English dictionaries.

The Oxford, Collins and Cambridge dictionaries chose “climate emergency (氣候緊急狀態(tài))", “climate strike (罷工)” and “upcycling”, respectively (分別地), as their Word of the Year". This tells us that climate change was a widely-discussed issue in 2019.

“Climate emergency” means a situation in which urgent (緊急的) action is needed to reduce climate change. “Climate strike” refers to people leaving work or school to call for more action to protect the environment. “Upcycling” refers to making new items out of old or used items to reduce waste.

Climate change has already affected the world in many ways. Take Venice, for example. Due to climate change, Venice experienced the worst flooding it has seen in the last 50 years in 2019. Many stores, restaurants and hotels were flooded. This caused serious damage totaling hundreds of millions of euros (歐元).

Although we've known about global warming for a long time, our large companies and governments have been slow to respond to it. The year 2019 might have been the turning point that will finally encourage our leaders to take responsibility.

“Decades ago, when the science on the climate issue was first increasing, the impacts (影響) could be seen as an issue for future generations,” Katharine Mach, a Stanford University climate scientist, told The New York Times. “ It's definitely our issue now.”

However, simply realizing that climate change is a threat (威脅) is not enough. We must take real action before it is too late.

A.Word of the YearB.climate changeC.the environmentD.global warming

4What the climate scientist Mach said means________.

A.future generations will suffer the climate issue

B.climate change has increased for many years

C.many scientists are working on the climate issue

D.we must take actions to deal with climate change right now

5From the passage, we can infer that________.

A.the leaders will take responsibility to protect the environment

B.people will use the three well-known English dictionaries

C.the climate issue will be more and more serious in the future

【題目】 It has been described as art by some people, but to others it’s an ugly part of modern life.

What is it? Graffiti (涂鴉), of course. Look around cities in the UK today and you can see graffiti on buildings, walls, doors and even on buses or trains that have stayed in one place for too long. But where modern technology creates a problem, it also finds a way to deal with it. Last week, The Weekend West was shown around the factory of a small but successful company (公司), Hubdean.

Hubdean’s achievement is some special paints which are graffiti-resistant. How do they work? It couldn’t be simpler. Take any graffiti-covered surface. First, a treatment called Agproclear is used. Then, using a very hot pressure jet (壓力噴嘴), this treatment is taken away and the graffiti disappears at the same time. Now you have a clean wall. But before this clean wall can be painted on by graffiti lovers, a new product, Agproshield, is used. This paint has a special surface which gives it two important advantages. Firstly, spray paint (噴霧顏料) won’t stick to the surface very well, and secondly, the whole surface can be cleaned very easily, just using water. Once the surface is painted, no specialist equipment (設(shè)備) is needed to keep the area clean and graffiti-free.

Not surprisingly, Hubdean’s products are used by both local governments and private companies all over the UK, and now orders are being received from around the world. This brings the company a problem, however. Can they increase production to satisfy the needs? Of course, they can build a second factory or work with a large international company to make their products. The future is looking good for Hubdean!

1What does the underlined word “graffiti-resistant” in Paragraph 2 mean?

A.Painting graffiti.B.Keeping graffiti.C.Preventing graffiti.D.Changing graffiti.

2When should Agproshield be used?

A.Before Agproclear is used.B.When the wall is still clean.

C.When Agproclear doesn’t work.D.After graffiti is painted on the wall.

3What can we learn about Hubdean?

A.There is a good market for its products.

B.A large company is going to buy its products.

C.It is developing more new and better products.

D.Most of its business comes from private companies.

4What would be the best title for the text?

A.Is Hubdean successful?B.Is graffiti art? Of course not!

C.Hubdean a high-tech company?D.Graffiti a problem? Just wash it off!
