【題目】 You sometimes feel so close to your friends that they are like family to you. Why? A study by San Diego, a professor, has found you and your friends have more genes (基因) in common than strangers do. Maybe this gives you the answer.

Researchers looked at the genes of 1,932 people and compared them in pairs of friends and strangers. They found that friends have 1 percent of genes that match.

“One percent may not sound like much to laypersons (外行),but to geneticists (遺傳學(xué)家) it is a huge number,” Professor Nicholas said. “In fact, this is the same amount of genes you share with your fourth cousins, those who have the same great-great-great grandparents as you.'

So is it a coincidence (巧合) that you become friends with people who share your genes? Not at all. “People who share certain genes also share skills and have similar likes and dislikes,” researchers said. In ancient times, it was important that people who were alike stayed together. For example, people who had a similar sensitivity to the cold were more likely to help each other. They would make a fire to, give themselves a better chance to live. Researchers also found that among all the genes studied, those influencing the sense of smell were the most similar in friends. This is probably because people who smell things in the same way are more easily drawn to similar environments.

Based on the findings, the team has developed an interesting test called the “friendship score”. It can calculate how big the chances are that two people will be friends by studying their genes.

So, here is a question for you: would you like to take this test to know who your friends are going to be?

1You sometimes feel close to your friends because_________.

A.they act like your familyB.you spend much time together

C.you influence each other a lotD.you have more genes in common

2What can we know according to Professor Nicholas's words?

A.Our friends are actually relatives of ours.

B.One percent sounds like much to laypersons.

C.We have one percent of genes that match our fourth cousins.

D.Our fourth cousins have the same great-great grandparents as us.

3What kind of genes are the most similar in friends?

A.The genes that make people have similarities in the look.

B.The genes that make people smell things in the same way.

C.The genes that make people have a similar sensitivity to the cold.

D.The genes that make people develop a similar taste in music.

4What does the underlined word “calculate” in the text mean?

A.work outB.depend onC.set upD.make sure

5What is the best title of the text?

【題目】 Some scientists conducted a study years ago. They gave 186 kids aged 4 regular carrots for lunch on some days, and the ________ vegetables renamed X-ray Vision Carrots on other days. Interestingly, the children ate nearly twice as many on the latter days.

The study suggests the influence of these names might continue. Children continued to eat about 50 percent more carrots even on the days when they were ___________ labeled as anything fun.

The research, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, was presented at the annual meeting of the School Nutrition Association in Washington, D.C.

“Cool names can make for cool foods,” said the lead author Brian Wansink of Cornell University. “Whether it be ‘power peas’ or ‘dinosaur broccoli trees’, giving a food a fun ________________ makes kids think it will be more fun to eat. And it seems to keep working — even the next day,” Wansink said.

Similar results have been found with _________. A restaurant study showed that when the Seafood Filet was changed to Romantic Hawaii, sales increased 28 percent and taste rating increased by 12 percent. “Same food, but different expectations, and a different experience,” said Wansink, author of “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.”

The study was conducted in pre-schools, but the researchers believe the same naming tricks can work with children ______________.

“I’ve been using this with my kids,” said researcher Collin Payne, “Whatever sparks(激發(fā)) their imagination seems to spark their appetite.”

【題目】 Passage 3

There are many useful inventions in the world. Have you ever wished to have an umbrella that makes your hands free? Alan Kaufman has thought up the “Nubrella”, which means “new”+ “umbrella”. It is the first truly hands-free umbrella in the world. The inventor says that it stops rain, wind and snow and can keep your head, face and hair dry.

“I never planned to invent a product. I just noticed a problem and thought up a solution,” said the inventor. The idea for the invention began on one rainy day. Mr Kaufman was standing in one of his stores. He began to look at people’s umbrellas. He found that they had to try very hard to keep their umbrellas in the right place. At that moment an idea came into his mind. He ran to his desk and drew a picture. In this way, the Nubrella was born. One cool feature of the Nubrella is that you don’t hold it like a usual umbrella, you wear it. The shoulder straps(肩帶) of the Nubrella allow people to be fully hands-free, so when walking in the rain with the Nubrella, you are able to use your cell phone or drink a hot cup of coffee. Also, the Nubrella will never be inverted(顛倒) in the wind. The new umbrella is far safer than traditional ones, because it has no sharp points.

1“Nubrella” is a kind of_________ umbrella.

2How can you use the “Nubrella”?

B.The idea of the new umbrella came from the rainy day.

C.When you are walking in the rain, you’d better take the Nubrella.

D.If you go out with the Nubrella in the rain, you’d better drink a hot cup of coffee.

A.Alan Kaufman often uses umbrellas in everyday life

B.the new kind of umbrella was invented by an umbrella store owner

Like most senior high school students in China, 17-year-old Liu Yu, from Yantai Development Zone Senior High School, Shandong, had planned to start her studies earlier this year to prepare for the coming gaokao.

However, the Ministry of EducationMOE)(教育部)gave notice in late January that the spring semester for all schools would be put off because of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak(新冠肺炎疫情爆發(fā)),疾病使得像Liu Yu一樣的學(xué)生待在家里。

Rather than falling behind their plan they had made. Liu and many others have already continue studying full-time again - only from home - in what may have become the largest online teaching experiment.

For students in remote(偏遠(yuǎn)的)or rural (農(nóng)村的)areas with poor internet, a television channel by China Education Television started airing classes on Feb 17 so they can study at home.

" To go with students' new learning environment, a "cloud platform"(云平臺(tái))was began on Feb 17 to provide students in elementary and secondary schools with education resources covering almost all school subjects. Students will be able to attend classes online or study through television," noted LvYugang, head of the ministry's Department of Basic Education.(教育部基礎(chǔ)教育司司長(zhǎng))

"I like online teaching because I have more freedom at home," Yuan, who began her all-day courses on Feb 3 said.

"My enthusiasm to study is stronger when my classmates are around me and all working very hard," Yuan also said.

But the online platform and TV channel don't just offer school knowledge. Student can also learn about epidemic prevention and control tips(疫情防控措施)during the period, and receive education on patriotism(愛(ài)國(guó)主義), life and psychological heath(心理健康).

For some students, the chance to study from home has had some unexpected benefits.

Yuan Siyi, who lives in Hubei province, used to get up before 6 am on school days, but since starting online courses, she gets more hours of sleep each morning. However, online teaching and learning has its weaknesses compared to studying in a real classroom.

According to the MOE, online courses are only measures taken for a short time during disease. “when the new semester begins, online classes will not take the placc of classroom teaching," Lv added.
