Many of us know that a beautiful and colourful butterfly comes from an ugly worm! Here is the story of a butterfly that was never able to live its life as a normal butterfly.

One day, a man saw a cocoon(蠶繭). He loved butterflies and had a craze for its wonderful colours. In fact, he spent a lot of time around butterflies. He knew how a butterfly would struggle(掙扎,奮斗) to turn into a beautiful one from an ugly caterpillar.

He saw the cocoon with a tiny opening. It meant that the butterfly was trying to make its way out to enjoy the world. He decided to watch how the butterfly would come out of the cocoon. He was watching the butterfly struggling to break the shell for several hours. He spent almost more than 10 hours with the cocoon and the butterfly. The butterfly had been struggling very hard for hours to come out through the tiny opening. Unfortunately, even after it continuously tried for several hours, there was no progress. It seemed that the butterfly had tried its best and could not give any more try.

The man, who had a passion and love for butterflies, decided to help the butterfly. He got a pair of scissors and tweaked the cocoon to make larger opening for the butterfly and removed the remaining cocoon. The butterfly came out without any struggle!

Unfortunately, the butterfly looked no longer beautiful and had a swollen body with small and withered(凋謝的) wings.

The man was happy that he had made the butterfly come out of the cocoon without any more struggles. He continued to watch the butterfly and was quite eager to see it fly with its beautiful wings. He thought that at any time, the butterfly might spread its wings, shrink(收縮) the body and the wings could support the body. Unfortunately, _____________ 91_______________

Instead, the butterfly just crawled around with withered wings and a huge body. It was never able to fly. Although the man did it with a good intention(意圖), he did not know that only by going through struggles the butterfly can come out to be beautiful, with strong wings.

The continuous effort from the butterfly to come out of its cocoon would let the liquid stored in the body be turned into wings. Thus, the body would become lighter and smaller, and the wings would be beautiful and large.

If we don’t want to undergo any struggle, we won’t be able to fly! Life is difficult, but struggles make us shine!

He loved butterflies and had a craze for its wonderful colours可知,這個(gè)人非常喜歡蝴蝶,他對蝴蝶美麗的顏色感到瘋狂。

Unfortunately, even after it continuously tried for several hours, there was no progress. It seemed that the butterfly had tried its best and could not give any more try.

He got a pair of scissors and tweaked the cocoon to make larger opening for the butterfly and removed the remaining cocoon可知,這個(gè)男人拿來一把剪刀,給繭剪開了一個(gè)更大的口,并把剩下的繭剪掉了。

He thought that at any time, the butterfly might spread its wings, shrink(收縮) the body and the wings could support the body. Unfortunately, neither did the wings expand nor the swollen body reduce.。

The continuous effort from the butterfly to come out of its cocoon would let the liquid stored in the body be turned into wings. Thus, the body would become lighter and smaller, and the wings would be beautiful and large.

Struggles are not easy and we may meet with all kinds of difficulties. If we don’t give up, struggles will make us stronger and promise us a good future.

Dear Mr. Brown,

Recently I had a discussion about ways of learned English with my classmate

Joe. In his opinion, the best ways to learn English are by reading English newspapers

and talking with friends with English. He believes that watching English films is also

not a good way.

However, I think we can find some English articles read by searching on the

Internet. Also, joining an English club is a great help.

What’s your opinion? Please writing to me.

Best wishes,

Tony

I was on my way to school this morning when I saw an old lady lie on the ground. It was raining heavily, I ran to her quickly and held an umbrella over her. Then I called 120 at once. While waiting for ambulance(救護(hù)車), I took down my coat to keep her warm. Soon the ambulance arrived. Seeing the lady sent to hospital, I felt quite relaxed. Later as I was at school, I took great pride in which I had done. I think it is responsible for us to give a hand to those who are in the trouble.

As the saying goes, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”This is the way the charity organization Heifer International (國際小母牛慈善組織)wants to end world hunger.

It began in the 1930s when an American farmer, Dan West, went to Spain to help people in need. He tried to feed the people with milk. But it seemed that there would never be enough milk. It made him think that what they needed was“not a cup, but a cow”.

Dan West returned to America. He worked together with some friends to find ways to end hunger. He believed giving animals and providing training would stop world hunger. With his help, Heifer International was set up.

On Heifer International’s website, you will see a list of animals like cows, chickens, pigs and even fish and bees. You can offer help by buying some animals for one certain family. Those animals will have babies. With more and more animals, these families will be able to support themselves. Once these families get better lives, they will pass on the act of kindness to others. More importantly, you are buying the resources(資源) for programs run by Heifer International to help more families.

The programs also help small-sized farms. As a rule, each farmer must give his animal’s first female(雄性) baby to another in need. Heifer International also provides training on animals health and feeding. And these farmers all agree to teach others what they have learned as another rule.

However, there is still a long way to go. The milk may run out. But if families have their own cows, they can get plenty of milk to feed themselves. The organization wants the farmers to go on

working together, helping each other and learning from each other. Maybe hunger can really be stopped.

2Which of the following is NOT TRUE about the charity organization Heifer International?

B. Farmers in the program must teach others how to feed animals.

D. Heifer Intermational provides training on animals' health and feeding.

“I’ve always had a pretty clear idea of what I want to do.” says Mary, a middle school student who

wants to become a director some day. You may not be as sure of your career (職業(yè)) as Mary. But you can start thinking about and planning for your future career.

The following article helps middle school students plan for careers.

Explore (探索) your interests

Many middle school students don’t yet know what they want to do. But in fact, students may change their minds several times, perhaps even after they enter society. And some of tomorrow’s

careers might not exist (存在) today. Focusing on just one job in middle school isn’t necessary. But

looking into the kinds of careers you might like can help you succeed.

Understanding what you enjoy and what you’re good at is the most important step in exploring careers. If you don’t know what you want to do, you should ask yourself what you like to learn about. If you really like science, what do you enjoy about it — the lab work or the research? It’s important to think about what you like to do, because work will finally be a big part of your life.

Discover possible careers

Once you’ve thought about the subjects and activities you like best, the next step is to look for careers that put those interests to use. If you love sports, for example, you might consider a career as a P.E. teacher or a soccer coach. If you like English, a career as an English teacher, a translator or a travelling guide might be a good choice.

After discovering possible jobs, you’ll want to learn more about them. Talking directly to workers on the phone, by email, or through online discussion can help you get information about what they do. Even meeting with them in person is helpful. First-hand information is necessary for you to find out if you’ll really like a career.
