【題目】 Twelve animal head statues(生肖獸首雕像) are well-known treasures from Yuanmingyuan, or the Old Summer Palace. After Anglo-French troops(英法聯(lián)軍) broke into the old Summer Palace in 1860, a large number of national treasures, including the 12 animal head statues, were taken away.
On November 13th, 2019, a red bronze(銅) horse-head statue returned to Beijing. It was donated by Macao collector Stanley Ho and handed over to the National Cultural Heritage Administration(國家文物局) in Beijing.
“The broken link(鏈接) of history memory is connected again in this way,” Liu Yuzhu, director of the NCHA, told China Daily when she was in an interview.
“The return of the heritage(文物) holds the Chinese’s collective emotion(集體情感). People’s cultural confidence can be strengthened. It will also encourage more compatriots (同胞), both at home and abroad, to better protect the cultural heritage of our country.”
In the past 70 years, the Chinese government and many compatriots have made a great contribution to getting back lost Chinese heritage from foreign countries. 【題目】 The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for older people in China. It started long ago. The festival is on lunar September 9th. Activities are held to show love and respect to old people.
Respecting(尊敬) older people is a tradition in China. That’s because the Chinese know that older people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn. There are many ways in which Chinese people express their respect. When an older person enters a room, everyone stands up. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we present a book to an older person, both hands are used. Young people always offer their seats to older people on a crowded(擁擠的) subway or bus.
In Western countries, however, older people seldom think they are old. They are called “seniors” instead of “old people”. They’d rather do everything themselves. Even after retirement(退休)they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies working well. But of course among westerners older people are respected, too. Usually, seniors don’t have to buy tickets for trains and buses. They are given discount(打折) in stores and restaurants.
But western seniors don’t often live with their children alone. For holidays, the families usually meet at their grandparents’ home, and a great smile and a warm hug for their parents are enough for grown children to show their respect.
