This Thursday, across the US, They can help their parents do some cleaning, send e-mails and deal with other daily things. Because April 28 is Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day all over the US. This holiday shows kids what it means to be a grown-up in the working world.

I still remember when this day started, I was very happy. Not only did I have the chance to leave the school, but I also could sit in my dad’s taxi all day long and we would go to a restaurant for lunch.

(任務(wù)二) I couldn’t read my book in the car as I would get carsick(暈車) and my dad didn’t like to turn on the radio. I got hot and uncomfortable. People wouldn’t get into his taxi because they thought he already had a passenger: me—so nothing happened. It seemed years before we went out for lunch. In fact, I started to miss the school.

Although the purpose of the day is to give kids a chance to experience possible jobs in their futures, I got something completely different from the day. I learned to value school life. Where else can you play with your friends, do science experiments, read great books and write stories all in one day?

(任務(wù)三)Just like you’ll have to learn to love your job later in life, learn to love school now. If you don’t, try spending the day at work with your dad.

(填寫字母代號(hào))_________

C. But soon I got used to this taxi ride around the city with my father.

1kids孩子們;be going to do將要做某事;work動(dòng)詞,工作;with their parents 和他們的父母;instead of代替; go to school. Kids are going to work with their parents instead of going to school。

2根據(jù)上文——陳述作者喜歡的事情,而下文卻是不喜歡的,說明此處是表轉(zhuǎn)折意思的語(yǔ)句“ But after only 40 minutes of driving around the city, I was very bored.”。

3just like 正如; you’ll have to 你將必須;learn to學(xué)會(huì)做某事; love your job愛你的工作; later副詞,以后;in life在生活中;love school愛學(xué)校;now.

They can help their parents do some cleaning, send e-mails and deal with other daily things. They can help their parents do some cleaning, send e-mails and deal with other daily things。

My experience of working with my dad./Spending the day at work with my dad./I worked with my dad。

Are you a positive person? If so, you are always hopeful and think of good points of a situation instead of bad ones. The power of positive thinking has been widely researched. It’s funny that some of us accept this power quickly while others are doubtful. Do you know the reason? Our opinions about positive thinking might explain its point.

________

When facing a problem, we weigh success or failure against the problem itself. We might think that positive thinking always leads us to expect success. Actually, it’s more important to realize that positive thinking results in acceptance of our situation. If we think positively, we may predict success or ways to move on when we are in difficulties. There’s a difference between blind positivity and seeing things in a positive way.

Results from positive thinking

Does research see any real value in positive thinking? Many studies show that a positive attitude leads to less stress and sadness. Physically, positive thinking also leads to a longer life and quicker recovery(恢復(fù)) from sickness. Positive people with a family history of heart problems are even less likely to experience heart attacks.

Positive VS Negative(消極)

It seems strange to think that a state of mind can have such effects. But there are several reasons why a positive attitude is better than a negative one. Negative feelings are good for making us focus on tasks, such as running from danger, for example. However, positive feelings open us up to a world of kinds of possibilities and bring us helpful ways. The more results of positive thinking naturally last longer as well.

Strategies for positivity

A positive attitude comes easier for some people than others because it’s a born character. Still, anyone can try a few things to bring out the positive.

a. Rebuilding: See positives through negatives, such as being glad the subway is cheap even when crowded.

b. Distance: When making a big decision, act like you’re giving a friend advice.

c. Smile: Real or not, smiles are shown to decrease (降低) heart rate and blood pressure.

In the end, a positive attitude requires not only positive thinking but also positive action.

1The passage may come from ________.

A. a notice B. a survey C. a diary D. a magazine

2The best subtitle for the second paragraph is “________”

A. What is blind positivity? B. What is positive thinking?

C. How is success predicted? D. What leads to success?

3The underlined word “effects” means ________.

A. reasons B. feelings C. results D. dangers

4According to the passage, ________ is an example of positive thinking.

A. thinking of cheap tickets instead of crowded train

B. staying at home when you have a heart problem

C. laughing at your high blood pressure in hospital

D. helping your friend to make an important decision

5From the passage, we know that ________.

A. negative thinking might lead to more possibilities

B. positive feelings can make us focus on difficult tasks

C. it’s easier for positive people to recover from illness

D. positive people will not die of serious heart problems

For centuries, the body’s blood has been connected closely with the feelings. People who show no human emotions or feelings are said to be cold-blooded.

Cold can affect other parts of the body. But the expression ―get cold feet‖ has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you have decided to do. For example, you agree to be CEO of a company. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned (辭職), and all the work of the company will be your responsibility (責(zé)任). You are likely to get cold feet about being CEO when you understand the situation.

The expression “give someone the cold shoulder” probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone, instead of speaking to him face to face. You may give the cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise (遵守諾言) he made to you, or to someone who has lied about you to others.

“A cold fish”is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone. Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted. He or she will never feel sorry for those in bad situation.

“Out in the cold” means not getting something that everybody else got. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise—he was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.

1How many expressions about ―cold‖ are mentioned in the passage?

A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Seven.

2If you ―get cold feet‖, it means “ ______”

A. your feet are very cold

B. you offer much of yourself to anyone

C. you miss something that everybody else got

D. you are afraid to do something you have decided to do

3You may think of an unfriendly person as “ ______”

A. a cold fish B. the cold feet

C. the cold shoulder D. being out in the cold

4What’s the passage mainly about?

A. Ways of making friends.

B. Advice on keeping warm.

C. Expressions connected with ―cold‖.

D. Opinions about cold-hearted people.
