Looking good can matter(be important) a lot when you are a teenager. Of course the budget(預算) matters a lot, too. Luckily, fashion trends(時尚潮流) in the UK mean that getting the right image(形象) doesn’t have to cost the earth. Here is a quick guide to which looks are hot this year.

For girls, the 70s are back. Wide-legged jeans, platform shoes and skirts that reach the feet are again in fashion among UK teens, topped off with colored, shining eye shadow. Girls can have fun mixing and matching bright shades. Colors like pink, orange and light yellow-green are all perfectly fit. Shorts and mini-skirts are still popular in cold weather. By wearing a pair of tights underneath, girls can stay warm as well as fashionable in the winter.

How about boys? To look lively, fans of skateboards and snowboards can dress in skinny jeans accompanied(伴隨) by a T-shirt topped off with a baseball cap or a woolen hat. Music is often an inspiration for fashion, and hip-hop music fans like to dress in baggy jeans, T-shirts, baseball caps and sneakers. For those who can afford it, designer clothing is a must, especially if the logo is showing.

1By using “cost the earth” in Paragraph 1, the author probably means it does not have to be ________ to get the right image.

A.difficultB.importantC.specialD.expensive

2According to the passage, if a girl wants to look cool, she will wear ________.

A.skinny jeansB.designer clothingC.a woolen hatD.a full-length skirt

3What can we infer from the passage?

A.Old clothes look hot this year.B.Music can affect fashion trends.

C.A T-shirt is really a good choice for fans.D.Designer clothing is what teens must have.

4The author of the passage aims to show teenagers how to ________.

根據(jù)第一段“Looking good can matter(be important) a lot when you are a teenager. Of course the budget(預算) matters a lot, too.”可知穿起來好看也是要花費很多的,又根據(jù)后文“Luckily, fashion trends(時尚潮流) in the UK mean that getting the right image(形象) doesn’t have to cost the earth.”

根據(jù)第二段“Wide-legged jeans, platform shoes and skirts that reach the feet are again in fashion among UK teens, topped off with colored, shining eye shadow.”

根據(jù)最后一段“Music is often an inspiration for fashion, and hip-hop music fans like to dress in baggy jeans, T-shirts, baseball caps and sneakers.”

根據(jù)“Looking good can matter(be important) a lot when you are a teenager.”當你年輕時看起來漂亮是非常重要的,再根據(jù)“Here is a quick guide to which looks are hot this year.”

Some parents think grades should disappear. In their opinion, grades don’t say much about which skills a student has developed in learning. Parents only get part of the information about students’ study. The grade C in Math could mean a student might still do badly in division (除法). It might also mean a student hand in his or her homework late. The teacher’s comments ( 評價)give more information.

But not everyone likes the idea of grade-free report cards. Some parents don’t want the change. They know an A is good and an F is bad. Teachers’ comments are not so direct. There’s also another problem. Without grades, how would students prove that they are doing well at school?

Two students share their opinions on which system is more meaningful.

Benje Choucroun: Grades are outdated(過時的). The letters and numbers on report cards send the wrong message. They turn school into a game. The goal becomes getting As or high marks.

What’s more, a bad grade can hurt your confidence. And it doesn’t give you advice about how to improve. Instead of focusing on grades, students should pay close attention to teachers’ comments. They will help students to improve. Think about this: Grades have been around for more than a hundred years. Isn’t it time to try something new?

Gabrielle Hurd: Grades let parents follow their kid’s progress at school. A parent can see the improvement from a C in Math on an early report card to a B on the recent one. A grade of C lets parents know their child needs more support, and an A shows skills. If schools don’t use grades, parents have to read teachers’ comments first. It takes a long time to read teachers’ words carefully. After that, they can get to know how their child is doing. As we all know, reading comments is not as easy as reading a grade. If your child wants to enter a senior high school that wants top grades, teachers’ comments may help, but the school may still need to see grades on a report card.

It was Sunday again. Paula and Emily disliked Sundays. That was one of the many things the twins had in common. They shared the same clothes and tied their hair in the same way. In fact, it was sometimes hard for their teachers and classmates to tell the differences between them.

Unlike their classmates, they had to get up early at seven every Sunday to prepare for their lessons. Paula had to attend the art class and Emily had to attend her dancing class. Both of them had learned their own classes for three years. “How I wish I could do something different today!” said the twins with one voice. All at once, a wonderful plan came to Paula and Emily at the same time. After giving each other a description(描述)of their own teachers and classmates, Paula put on Emily’s dancing dress while Emily put Paula’s things for painting into her bag. Then they left for their classes.

When the art class started, Emily felt lost. Unlike Paula, Emily was poor at drawing. When the art class finally ended, Emily didn’t dare to hand in her work.

Meanwhile, Paula was struggling(掙扎)in the dancing class as well. As she had no idea about the dance steps, she had to follow her classmates blindly. As a result, she kept walking into them. Their dancing teacher became a little bit angry with her, “Emily, you should remember the steps. You can’t depend on copying what others are doing.”

When Emily and Paula got home, they were tired out. They decided that they would never try to be someone else they were not. It seemed that “the grass was not always greener on the other side of the fence (籬笆)”.
