We often act like babies when we want to be happy. Why? I think it is because children have no worry and they don’t complain.
We can set a goal in our life and go after what we want. But if we’re ① all the time, how can we live happily? If you don’t believe me, count how many ① you complain about something in one day. Whether it is being trapped in busy traffic or troubled by weather, or whatever it is, there are endless things you can find to complain about.
But it’s not just the outside condition that we will complain about. We complain about ourselves too. We complain that we don’t have enough time or money, and that we’re not smart enough, cool enough, or just enough. Many times we experience lots of unpleasant things because of complaining about things we can’t control.
Think about how much happier you would be if you stopped complaining? ②Much of what you complain about is out of your control anyway. What’s the meaning of thinking about something you have no power to change?
Finding out what you are complaining about is the first step to stop complaining. Ask yourself if you prefer to complain or to be happy.

There is no doubt that a mother plays an important leading role in the lives of their children. But what about a ① ① ? Fathers play just as important a role as mothers.
Fathers give us support. They are the shore(岸)we swim to when our arms and legs feel tired. ②They are the strength we rely on (依靠)as we take our first steps into the world. Fathers can be gentle and powerful, but they probably have the simplest love we ever know.
For sons, the father is their first hero and possibly the only man they will ever feel comfortable loving.
For daughters, the father is the first man they admire and the first man whose eyes shine with happiness when they look at them. He is the first man to fall in love with them.
For mothers, the father of our children is the person we can believe in to watch over the babies as closely as we would. We are protectedin the knowledge of their love. A father is the person on the planet with whom we can do whatever we want ... one who will be just as interested and never feel bored in the face of our devotion.
Without fathers, we wouldn't be mums. I would like to thank them from all our hearts for this honor and for being our partners in the business of raising children.

科目:初中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2011-2012學(xué)年山東省濟(jì)南市初三第三次中考模擬英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
閱讀短文,按要求完成各題。
If the eyes are the windows of the soul, then the body is the mirror of our feelings. If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals(信號(hào)). If we look at someone else’s body, we can often tell how thy are feeling by their body signals. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
In case(假使) you don’t think that learning how to read and use body language is important, here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say, and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone(語(yǔ)氣) and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language.
These non-verbal(非語(yǔ)言的) signals will help you a lot, but you still need to focus on what people are saying. If you focus too much on their body language signals, you and the person may feel uncomfortable. It is useful to be able to read people’s body language, but it is useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals too. Body language may be given several interpretations. Many signals have different meanings, depending on the person and the situation. Be sure of it when you are trying to read a body language signal.
Facial expression is one of the body languages. Facial expressions are one or more movements on a person’s face, such as frowning(皺眉),raising your eyebrows and rolling(旋轉(zhuǎn)) your eyes. Scientists say that humans have 80 muscles(肌肉) on their faces. These muscles can make 7.000 different facial expressions. These expressions can be put into six classes. They are happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear and disgust(厭惡)。
For example, when people think a certain food tastes disgusting, they usually make a funny face. When people are surprised, they often raise their eyebrows and open their eyes wide.
If people can read facial expressions correctly, they may be better at knowing other people’s feelings. That can help people make more friends. However, sometimes people have to be careful when reading others’ faces. It’s rude to stare at others for a long time.
