BEIJING—The sky is gray and air smells strange. It’s another day of smog.
On Saturday, heavy haze(霾)still covered north and east China. Highways were closed and         couldn’t take off on time.
The smoggy weather         the country’s land from north to south, including Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, and 6 other provinces. People could only see clearly           than 50 meters in some areas.
Cities           Shanghai and Nanjing have been covered by the gray sky for the past several days. Many walkers in the street had to wear          . In the Lukou airport in Nanjing, more than 60 flights were canceled(取消) on Saturday            the haze, which also made primary and middle schools and kindergartens stop           on Thursday and Friday in Nanjing.
The office worker of Environmental Protection said earlier this week that there were several        reasons behind the widespread haze: unpleasant weather conditions making          difficult for smog to disappear, motor vehicle exhaust(尾氣), and coal use for winter heating.
To fight pollution, the Chinese government now plans to clean up the air by cutting coal use,         some factories, and removing 6 million old cars from the roads.
“We must face up to the facts,” said Yan Naiqiang, a professor of environmental science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. “The treatment of smog will be a long fight. From now on, if we use buses or cars less and do more riding, we believe a clear sky is not a faraway dream.”

The father’s role in the family is important. One researcher says babies who are cared for by their fathers have greater cognitive (認(rèn)知的) development at one year of age than babies not cared for by their fathers. Another researcher reports that by spending time with their pre-school children, fathers can help to develop children’s language ability. Researchers also point out that for school-age children, fathers are one bridge with the outside world.
Fathers who value (重視) education have children who do better in school than those children whose fathers don’t value education. What’s more, fathers who spend quality time with their children may give their children happy memories which may last a lifetime.
While each father is a unique person who educates children in his own style, good fathers have something in common.
Good fathers attend their children’s school activities. They also involve the children in their lives and the adult world by taking them to see the workplace, or by taking them when the car needs to be repaired, etc.
Good fathers expect a great deal from their children, but also accept and support the unique individuals (個(gè)體) that their children are becoming.
Good fathers prefer explanations and reasoning to force.
Good fathers know their time with children is really an investment (投資) in them.
Being an involved father is good for children and good for fathers. Both children and fathers have the chance for growth and development. Today’s lifestyles are changing. More and more fathers are keeping a balance between their personal life, work, and family time.

Now more and more people in the world are getting fatter. This troubles them a lot. (1)Experts(專(zhuān)家) say that it has a lot to do with our eating habits.
Our eating habits are very important for good health and a strong body. Most of us like eating sweets and ice cream better than vegetables and rice. Sweets and ice cream are not bad for us if we eat them at the end of a meal. (2)If we eat them before a meal, they may take away our appetite(食欲).
It’s important for us to eat our meal in the same period each day. When we feel worried or excited, we may not want to eat. A long time ago, in England, some judges(法官) often decided whether a man was telling the truth by giving him some dry bread. Snake dishes have become popular in recent years. Snake meat is often seen in restaurants. It seems that eating snakes is now in fashion, and if you ( A ) ___________ (not eat) any snakes yet, you’re considered out-of-date. But I wonder whether it is worth following.
Some people think that eating snake meat is good for their health. But these people don’t know that snakes usually eat mice and worms. Therefore, there are many parasites(寄生蟲(chóng))found inside snakes’ bodies. ( B ) 它們可能對(duì)我們的健康有害。 Apart from this, we’re sorry to see that more snakes are being killed by a butcher’s knife. According to the newspaper, Shanghai Star, about 1,000 tons of snakes are eaten by people every year in China. In Shenzhen of Guangdong Province, sometimes as many as 10 tons of snakes are served on dinner tables in a single day. ( C ) If we still turn a blind eye to this, a vicious circle(惡性循環(huán))will be created — if more snakes are eaten by people, the number of snakes will drop, and the number of mice will increase, which will result in a decrease in crop output. This will make more people hungry. Who wants to see such a tragedy?
( D ) Therefore, let’s not eat snakes any more! To protect the snakes is to protect ourselves.

If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them .If you don’t, you may get lost. If you do get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends. Let them find you. You can help them to find you by stay in one place.
