【題目】The government in China plans to end its one-child policy (政策) and let families have two children instead. The plan was meant to balance (平衡) population development and stop a falling birth rate (出生率).
China started the one-child policy in the 1980s. But the government allowed only a small number of couples to have two children. For example, some families in the countryside could have two children, if the first-born child is a girl. In 2013, the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children if one of them was an only child.
Jiang Quanbao, a population expert, explained how Chinese families react to the newest policy. “Lots of young people in the cities are no longer interested in having a second child,” he said.
At the end of 2014, China had a population of 1.37 billion people. But the labor market population will drop in 35 years. That is to say, the country will be in great need of labor by the year 2050. With the “two children” policy, an increase in births can solve this problem.
【1】Why does the government plan to end the one-child policy?
A. Because we need a larger population.
B. Because millions of people have jobs.
C. Because most families want to have a second child.
D. Because a falling birth rate must be stopped.

A. They support the policy. B. They don’t think it is good.

A. In 2025. B. In 2035. C. In 2050. D. In 2070.

A. There will be more old people.

【題目】Hey girls, if the boys in your class are acting silly, you might as well leave them alone. You are far more sensible than them, aren’t you?
There is science to back up this theory. Scientists from Newcastle University, UK, and Seoul University, South Korea, found that the brain matures (成熟) earlier in girls than in boys. This is partly because of the way children’s brains are “pruned.”
As the brain matures, it begins to cut out unimportant information and focus on important information. This process is called “pruning.”
In order to learn more about this process, scientists scanned the brains of 121 people aged between 4 and 40. They found that pruning began much earlier in girls. Between the ages of 10 and 12, a girl’s brain will start to see a lot of activities as the pruning process starts. But for boys, this doesn’t start until the age of 15 to 20.
During this process, the brain will turn off memories, sounds or sights that appear several times. But important connections, like linking the sound of a familiar person’s voice to their face, are kept.
“The loss of connectivity during brain development can help to improve brain function,” scientist Sol Lim told the Daily Telegraph.
To understand this more easily, imagine you are at a party and everyone is talking. You can’t concentrate. But if you “turn off” some of the voices, it is easier to hear the others. The brain works in a similar way.

【題目】The well-known "new great inventions" of modern China have made our daily lives more convenient.
High-speed trains China created its first high-speed railway line in 2008. Since then, the number of passenger trips has grown by over 30 per cent every year. By 2016, more than 5 billion trips had been taken on the trains. By 2020, one-fifth of the country's 150,000-km railway network will be used by the trains. This network will link more than 80 per cent of the major cities across China.
Mobile payment Mobile payment is turning China into a "cashless society". Instead of paying by cash (現(xiàn)金), customers now pay for their goods and some kinds of bills simply by typing a short password into the Alipay or WeChat app on their mobile phone.
Shared bikes China has surprised the world with how quickly shared bikes are widely used. Nowadays, bike users can simply pick up or park the bikes on the street through GPS and smartphone apps. China's two leading bike-sharing companies, Mobike and Ofo, have been opening their overseas markets in Singapore, the UK and the USA.
Online shopping With around 751 million Internet users, China has been the world's largest and fastest-growing online shopping market. Because of lower costs and fewer licensing requirements(執(zhí)照要求), it's easier for sellers to open an online shop in China.
