【題目】

One of the most often asked and most controversially(有爭議的) answered questions is "What should I do when I meet a blind person?" A quick Google search will turn up plenty of answers, which are quite different from each other. So, obviously, there is no general agreement on what to do when you meet a blind person.

There are no special rules or does and doesn't that can deal with this situation. There is only one principle(原則): Blind people are nothing more or less than people who happen to be blind. As such, it is our own job to take care of ourselves, and we are grateful to no one else for special care or leadership. For we think we are equal(平等的)to normal people.

The best thing to do is nothing. Don't suppose you know what we need. If we do need something, we'll politely let you know.

Forget everything you've heard about the blind even if you consider yourself to be an expert. Blind people have plenty to say about "experts". Especially, forget anything you've heard or read about "Ten Things to Do if You Meet a Blind Person". The advice will probably just cause more embarrassment(尷尬). More of it is made up by sighted people anyway and doesn't necessarily stand for the blind's view.

There is completely no way to second—guess the situation by imposing(強(qiáng)加)any preformed ideas. Even if you've known other blind people, don't think you know what to do with every one of them. The thing that often makes us angry is to hear "It's OK. My mother(sister, cousin, friend)is blind."

Blind people are as different from each other as any two people on this earth. There are no similarities among us that you can depend on. Even the degree of vision, hearing or touch that we use can be very different. Most blind people do have same degree of vision, and even the very few of us who are totally blind may use our touch and hearing very effectively.

1It can be inferred from the passage that the writer________.

A.is a blind personB.hears more clearly than others

C.never asks others for helpD.thinks blind people need special care

2According to the passage, which of the following opinions may the writer disagree with?

A.Most blind people can take care of themselves.

B.Blind people aren't equal to sighted people.

C.Blind people generally dislike those thinking they understand the blind a lot.

D.Each person, blind or sighted, is different from anyone else.

3Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

A.Never Help the BlindB.Try to Help the Blind

C.Not Every Help Is Good for the BlindD.Learn More about the Blind

What do you need?

Several rubber balloons

Wooden skewer(木簽)

Vegetable oil

Paper towel

Step l

Blow up a balloon, let some of the air out of it, and tie it closed.

Step 2

Rub some oil on skewer with paper towel.

Step 3

Gentle twist(搓捻)and push skewer into end of balloon opposite the knot. If balloon pops(爆 炸),go back to Step 1.

Step 4

When skewer is in balloon, slowly twist and push it out of balloon near knot.

__________

The balloon does not pop, even though it has a skewer in it.

Why won’t it pop?

Rubber is made out of long chains of molecules (分子).

The skewer pushes these molecules aside.

The molecules mix with the oil and they stick together tightly.

The oil on the skewer seals the hole and air cannot get out.

1Which is the most suitable word for “”?

2What can we infer(推斷)from the passage?

A.It’s easy to push a skewer into and out of a balloon when doing the experiment.

B.You’d better blow as much air as possible into a balloon to make it big enough.

C.There’s no need for you to use the oil and paper towel while doing the experiment.

D.It’s hard for the air to get out of the hole as molecules and oil stick together.

【題目】

You have probably heard of tomato throwing and the polar bear swim, but have you ever heard of the sport of cheese rolling?

Cheese rolling is an event that takes place every spring at Cooper's Hill,Gloucestershire(a county in England, west of London). People say that cheese rolling is one of Great Britain's oldest customs. Some say the custom started even before the Romans lived in that country 2000 years ago. Most say cheese rolling has been going on for at least a couple of centuries as a celebration of the onset (beginning)of summer.

Each year, thousands of spectators come to Cooper's Hill to watch people chase ( run after) a three kilogram round of Double Gloucester Cheese down the hillside. There are separate races for men and women, and uphill races for boys and girls too. The winners get to keep the rounds of cheese they have tried so hard to catch. However, no one ever catches the cheese because it runs fast down the slope(斜坡)at nearly 110 kilometers per hour !

It is funny to imagine people chasing a little wheel of cheese as it rolls down a hill, but maybe it is not so funny to see it because Cooper's Hill is very Steep(陡峭的).Every year, several of the cheese chasers tumble down the hill. Often, people have their bones broken, but this has not stopped the event from taking place.

Would you chase cheese down a hill?

A.The place where the event is held.
