It may seem easy to say that plants and animals are different. Any child can tell the difference between  a tree and a dog. But those differences are far deeper than just what they look like. The cells (細(xì)胞) that plants are made up of are different. In other words, the cell wall of plants has something special.

First of all, it's important to find that not all plant cells have a cell wall. Besides, there are many differences of a cell wall based on the kinds of plant. The following is meant to be what a plant cell wall is  like.

The cell wall of a plant is on the outside of the cell membrane (). It is usually hard and cannot be bent easily, but the degree of flexibility (韌性) of the cell wall is different. It is based on the special use that the cell has in keeping the plant alive. Cells that make up the trunk of a tree are clearly less flexible than? cells on a leaf.

Cell walls act in many ways. They serve to protect the plant. They provide support, as well as help in the movement of chemicals and wastes into and out of the cell.  More importantly, they control the water? that goes in and out.  Plants must have good water controlling systems (系統(tǒng)), allowing them to keep water during dry seasons, and get rid of unnecessary water. Plants can't walk around to find water, so  being able to control water is very important.

So there you have it , what a plant cell wall is. Of course, there are many other things that are not talked about here. Knowing more about plant cell wails requires further study and research.

A. all plants have a ceil wall?????????????

What a cold winter! How wonderful it would be if there were a fire! Fire keeps us warm. But fire is very dangerous, and can kill us. November 9 is National Fire Safety Day. It's a time for us to learn a lot more about fire, especially what to do if we are caught in a fire.
Call 119
Never try to put out a fire by yourself, even if it is a very small one. Get help from your parents or call 119. Tell 119 where you are and what is on fire. Listen to 119's instructions.
Keep down close to the floor
If there is a lot of smoke in your room, keep down close to the floor. There is less smoke down there, so it's easier to breathe(呼吸) and see where you are going. If you don't, the smoke may kill you before the fire does.
Don't use the elevator
Never use the elevator(電梯) during a fire. Always use the stairs. An elevator may stop at the floor where the fire is burning. It may also go wrong and keep you inside.
Don't go back
Never go back into a burning building. Even if you have left your pet or favorite toy inside, do not go back for it. Don't worry about your pets. Animals have a very good sense of smell(嗅覺). They often get out of the building before people.

Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her sit by her window each afternoon, sewing(針線活) or reading.

After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself, “I wonder why that woman doesn’t wash her window. It really looks terrible.”

One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window inside.

Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was seen clearly. Her window was clean!

Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing(批評(píng)) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through(通過) my own dirty window.

That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own mistakes?

Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (評(píng)判) someone, I asked myself first, “Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?”

Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly.

1.The writer couldn’t see everything clearly through the window because _________.

A. the woman’s window was dirty

D. the woman’s window was still terrible after he washed his own window

“It dawned on me” probably means “_________”.

A. I began to understand it

B. it cheered me up

C. I knew the woman’s window grew light.

D. it began to get dark

3.It’s clear that _________.

閱讀理解。
Younger adults who get either little sleep or a lot of it may see a greater increase in their waistlines (腰圍)
over time, a study suggests.
    The study included 332 African-American and 775 Hispanic-American (西班牙裔美國(guó)人) men and women
aged 18 to 81. The researchers measured their abdominal(腹部的) fat, at the start of the study and again five
years later.
Among the people younger than 40 in the research, the study found, those who said they slept for five hours or less each night gained more fat than those who averaged six or seven hours of sleep. Those who slept eight
hours or more in bed each night also showed a bigger fat gain-but it was not as much as that seen in "short
sleepers " .
The findings, according to the lead researcher Dr Kristen, support the belief that sleep habits affect weight,
and health in general. " Sleep is an important part of your overall health-not just in whether you're tired during
the day," he said.
As for why sleep time might affect abdominal-fat gain, there are several facts:
People who get too little sleep may be too tired during the day to exercise, while those who spend a lot of
time in bed may spend less time being active, comparing to people who sleep fewer hours. Research also
suggests that sleep loss changes people's appetite-regulating hormones (胃口調(diào)節(jié)荷爾蒙)-which could, in
theory, make them overeat.
What's more, depression, which is a feeling of sadness that makes people think there is no hope for the
future, could also be a reason. He also noted that it often affects people's sleep and has been linked to weight
gain.
1. ___ will get less fat gain according to the passage.
A. Younger adults who sleep for five hours or less
B. People who sleep more than 8 hours every day
C. Younger adults who are from Africa or America
D. People who sleep about six or seven hours a day
2.  The underlined word "that" refers to____.
A. a fat gain
B. sleep habits
C. too little sleep
D. too much sleep
3. What can we leam from the passage?
A. The more we sleep, the more energetic we will be.
B. The less we sleep every day, the less fat we will get.
C. Those who are in sadness could easily get a bigger fat gain.
D. The African and Hispanic adults easily get a greater weight gain.
