【題目】Parisian architect( )Paul Andreu has designed so many landmark buildings in China.

Among his best known are the National Grand Theatre in Beijing, the Jinan Grand Theatre and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Andreu is nearly 80 and he continues to develop projects in China. The worldfamous architect, writer and painter held his first art show last summer in Beijing where he sat down for this interview.

How was it that you went from architecture to writing—and more recently to painting?

I have a desire to create, for continuous renewal. While I can't say that I know everything about architecture,I no longer have much to prove or discover. For me,painting is just as important, creatively, but it's something you do alone in your workshop, with a piece of paper and a pot of ink—it's totally refreshing.

Why did you wait so many years to start painting?

It was a kind of need. I was tired off in my field and wanted to try something new and I tried to improve this situation by writing. But writing is a very long process—it takes at least a year to write a book. Painting is faster. Being alone with yourself during the day,in the light, and then putting yourself in a situation where you produce something of which you know nothing and for which no one has asked—it's a kind of freedom you seldom have in life.

What is your project in China right now?

There's a project in the ZhuhaiMacao area. The Chinese engineering and building company Zhuhai Da Heng Qin asked French architect Thomas Coldefy to think about the project, suggesting that he work with an architect who's already known in China. He asked me if I'd be willing to do some of the work. We'll present the project some time before December;the planned completion date is in 2019.

1Paul Andreu has gone from architecture to painting because .

A. he likes paper and ink B. he thinks painting is faster

C. he has a desire to create D. he has to prove that he is great

2Where is Paul Andreu's project in China now?

A. In Beijing. B. In Jinan.

C. In Shanghai Pudong. D. In the ZhuhaiMacao area.

3What do you know about Paul Andreu from the passage?

A. His achievements. B. His challenges. C. His worries. D. His habits.

【題目】The Sixth Time I Went to the Principal’s Office

When I was in the seventh grade, I had problems behaving. My heart was in the right place, but I

couldn’t always follow the rules. I played many tricks on my schoolmates. Once, I even pulled a girl’s hair

on the school bus to get her attention. As a result, I was repeatedly sent to the office of the principal(校長(zhǎng)).

Although I hated going there, I did not hate the principal, Mr. Ratcliff.

Mr. Ratcliff was a kind, elderly man. When he spanked( 打屁股) me for putting some ants into a

classmate’s pencil box, it didn’t hurt at all, but it did hurt my feelings. I thought so much of him and

moments like that seemed to prove I was hopelessly bad.

When I got called to Mr. Ratcliff’s office for the sixth time, I had no idea what I had done. I felt

disappointed as I walked down there. I went into his office, sat down, and looked at the floor. Then he said

the last thing I expected to hear:” Kevin, I’ve heard you’ve been behaving really well lately. I want you to

know how proud I am of you, and I just called you down to my office to give you a peppermint.”

“Really?” I was surprised.

“Yes. Now you can take that peppermint and go back to class.”

I carried the peppermint with me as if it was a gold coin. When I got into my classroom, I bragged ( 吹噓) to my classmates about my turnaround, excitedly. I wasn’t so bad after all.

Mr. Ratcliff was really kind. He made me realize that I was just a kid who had problems with behavior. He bought some peppermints and took the time to notice me when I got something-anything-right. Mr.Ratcliff gave me some hope by giving me some love. I will just remember him for the rest of my life.

【題目】任務(wù)型閱讀

閱讀下面的短文,在思維導(dǎo)圖中填入恰當(dāng)?shù)膬?nèi)容完成閱讀摘記。

Tape-Measure Murder is a short story by Agatha Christie. In the story, Miss Politt, the dressmaker, finds that Mrs. Spenlow is dead in her house in a small village called St Mary Mead. Everybody, including the police, thinks that Mr. Spenlow is the murderer (兇手) because he is so calm and quiet after discovering his wife’s death. But after the police talk to Miss Marple, she finds out the real murderer.

The best part of the story is when Miss Marple explains how she solves the mystery (疑案) by noticing a tiny pin (別針) on a policeman’s uniform. Her explanation is very clear and clever. Miss Marple is my favorite character in the story. I think she is very special because she is just an old lady but she is even smarter than the policemen. I never thought that an old lady could be the main character of a detective story!

Can you guess who the murderer is? Read the book to find out! You will enjoy the story very much because the ending is so surprising.
