Taking a bus or subway in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I hardly ever see people reading during their free time.

Are people’s attitudes (態(tài)度) toward reading different here? Not really. Data (數(shù)據(jù)) from Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They just like e-books better than traditional books.

However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this difference? I’m not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature from great Chinese literature like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三國演義》) to the modern science-fiction epic The Three-Body Problem ( ). Chinese writers have created many wonderful written works.

Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not feel like reading for fun. Chinese students have to read more and do more homework than US students. So that's why they might not want to read much in their free time.

But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot think of. Even just a small book has the magic to change your own personal thoughts and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?

1Americans often when they take a bus or subway.

A.workB.readC.sleep

2The difference in reading between China and the US may start when .

A.they are childrenB.they are teenagersC.they are old enough

3Why don't Chinese students want to read a lot in their free time?

A.Because the great Chinese literature is difficult to understand.

B.Because they spend too much time on textbooks and homework.

C.Because they might feel like reading textbooks for fun.

4We can learn in the last paragraph.

A.reading makes a full man

B.reading is the key to traveling

C.reading teaches you to play magic

5What can you infer from the passage?

A.Chinese students are busier with schoolwork than American students.

B.Amazon China is a famous book that Chinese people read a lot.

C.Traditional books are more popular among Chinese people.
