【題目】Answer the questions

You are invited to a large party. Loud music is playing, and lots of people are dancing. Do you dance or talk to as many people as you can call all night? Later, you cannot fall asleep—you want more conversation! Or do you prefer a quieter corner? Or perhaps you cannot wait to go home early and relax by yourself.

Which of these people sound most like you? Person A, who tries to talk to everyone and stays late? Or Person B, who prefers to keep quiet and leaves early?

If you said Person A, you are probably more extroverted(性格外向的). If you said Person B, you are probably more introverted(內(nèi)向的). Or perhaps you are Person C and fall somewhere in the middle. Introverted and extroverted people are two commonly used words to describe a person’s personality. And they are also commonly misused and misunderstood.

Introverts may be thought as quiet, shy and timid. Extroverts may be thought as bold, confident, loud and full of energy. Introverted and extroverted people may fit those descriptions. But these same descriptions do not define(下定義)introversion and extroversion properly.

Introverts and extroverts use their brains differently, and they get their energy differently. Introversion is the state of being mostly concerned with one’s own mental life. Extroversion is the opposite. Extroversion is the state of being mostly concerned with what is outside oneself.

People who consider themselves introverts may say they “need to be alone to charge their batteries”. However, introverts may still live being social and going to parties. But such activities require time to prepare.

Extroverts may say, “I don’t need ‘a(chǎn)lone time’, I feel more relaxed being around other people.” Even so, extroverts can still feel unsure or not confident among other people.

So where do you fall on the introversion/ extroversion chart?

1If Person B is invited to a large party, what does he probably do?

2Which three words in this passage are used to describe introverts?

3What’s the main idea of the 5th paragraph?

4What do “such activities” refer to in paragraph 6?

5How do extroverts usually make themselves relaxed?

6Which personality do you prefer, introverted or extroverted? Show your reason!

【題目】閱讀下面的短文,在表格內(nèi)的空白處填入合適的答案(每空限填一詞

Body language sometimes speaks louder than words. Body language can tell you whether someone is interested or not, and whether someone is happy to see you or not. One of the most important things that body language can tell, however, is whether a person is lying or not. Here’s how you can determine whether someone is telling you the truth or not, based on body language alone.

The eyes are said to be the windows of the soul and one of the things that the little windows will show you is whether someone is honest or not. When talking to people, look at their eyes and judge whether they are turning away from your close watch or not. People are usually subconsciously(潛意識(shí)地) uncomfortable when lying to the person that they are talking to. Besides lying, eyes that have a lot of movement usually show that the person is about to lie or that the person has told a lie.

People who lie often touch their noses and other parts of their faces. If you notice that your partner or someone talking to you unconsciously touches his nose, this probably means that he is lying. The reason why people touch their faces when they lie is that lying usually causes an increase in blood circulation, leading to an itch in the small blood vessels(血管) in the nose or in the cheeks.

Another common body language suggestion that someone is lying is when a person crosses his arms. Crossing the arms means that the person is both being defensive(防御的)and shutting himself off. People who are speaking the truth will usually make an open gesture(姿態(tài))with the arms on the side to show that they are not hiding anything. Subconsciously, however, people will cross their arms when they are lying.

If you plan to use body language to determine whether someone is lying or not, make sure that you are focused and that you are looking in the face and the person’s body all at the same time.
