Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the local people of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the local people become unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy(經濟). It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance(推進) the well-being (health and happiness) of local people.
Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer.
On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a lot of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.
Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一詞)
One of the most powerful tools you can use to improve your reading comprehension is mind mapping. It is possible to create maps by simply using a pen and paper.
The first step is to draw a circle or box at the center of the page. Inside your shape write down the main idea that your mind map will focus upon. For example , if you were creating a mind map about the geography of the United States , then you would write down “the geography of the United States” in the middle of your page inside your circle.
Next you draw branches from your central idea. Much like a tree grows branches . Simply draw a line moving away from the central theme. In the case of the geography of the United States , you would probably draw 50 lines. Each line represents one of 50 states. These are the main categories(分類) with your primary concept(概念).
Each of lines can then have branches off of each. These would represent the main example under each category. For example , under the line titled, “ Texas,” you would find lines called Austin, Houston, and Dallas, you might draw a series of lines to represent some of its main sections like “ South Dallas” and “ Highland Park” .
You continue to draw your mind map much like the structure of branches on a tree. Mind map helps improve your comprehension because they enable you to quickly see relationships between main ideas, categories , examples, and details that might otherwise be missed if you use more traditional note taking strategies(策略).

Do you often feel weak or tired when you get up in the morning? Do you often wake up with a headache? Well, if the answer is yes, take Dr. Talbot’s advice (建議) and start feeling better.
Get up and move. If you hate feeling tired and unhappy, you should start exercising. Try running, swimming or cycling. When we exercise, our body produces special chemicals(化學產品) that give us energy and make us feel happier. If you dislike exercising, listen to your favourite music and dance to it. That’s exercise, too.
Eat healthily. You should eat three balanced meals every day and you shouldn’t eat too much fast food. If you need some more extra energy the whole day, make an energy drink. Mix together fresh fruit juice and low-fat milk. It tastes great.
Get out close to the open air. The smell of flowers will make you feel happy. Even the smell of your favourite food can change the way you feel!
Wake your body up. When you have a shower, change the water from hot to cold and back to hot again. You’ll feel the difference.
Laugh! You should laugh for, at least, three minutes, three times a day. It will make you feel great!

Do you feel lonely when your best friend isn’t around? Here’s our advice to you-- and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes.
It’ s hard when a best friend isn’t around—maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feel left out at break or lunchtime. You want to have new friends, but how do you make them? Maybe it seems like everybody else already has his or her friends. But remember, there’s always room for more friends.
Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you’d like to play with at break. Look for chances to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly. Offer to share something or express your appreciation (欣賞) to them. Invite someone to play with you or say “Do you want to sit here?” in the lunchroom. When you’re at break, walk over to kids you want to play with, act friendly, and say “Hi, can I play, too?” or just join in.
If you have trouble doing this or if you’re feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Be kind, be friendly, share, say nice things, offer to help—and pretty soon, you’ll have one, or two, or even more new friends.
You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other, you can share something you didn’t have before he or she left: You can introduce him or her to your new friends!

There are about fifteen hundred languages in the world. But only a few of them are very important. English is one of them. Many, many people use it, not only in England and the USA, but also in other parts of the world. About 200,000,000 people speak it as their own language. It is difficult to say how many people are learning it as a foreign language. Many millions of people are trying to do so. Is it easy or difficult to learn English? Different people may have different answers. Have you ever noticed ads(廣告) of this kind in the newspapers or magazines? “Learn English in six weeks, or give your money back…” “Easy and funny…” “Our records and tapes help you master English in a month”. Of course, it never happened quite like that.
The only language that seems easy to learn is the mother tongue. We should remember that we all learned our own language well when we were children. If we could learn English in the same way, it would not seem so difficult. Think of what a small child does. He listens to what people say. He tries what he hears.
So it is hard to say that learning English is easy. We must do a lot of practice. And practice needs great efforts and takes much time. Good teachers, record, tapes, books, and dictionaries will be helpful, but they cannot do the student’s work for him.
小題1:How many languages are very important in the world?
