                                            Huguangyan National Scenic Spot
     Huguangyan National Scenic Spot is in the south part of Zhanjiang. It is 18 km away from Zhanjiang. The
scenic spot mainly consists of the volcanic (火山) lake and the basalt (玄武巖) rock-groups around the lake.
The total area of the spot covers 13.6 square kilometers with a protection area of 38 square kilometers. The
water area of the lake amounts to 2.3 square kilometers. In 1997, The UNEarth Research Center and Earth
Research Institute of China Scientific Institute assessed (評(píng)估) that Huguangyan was formed about 140,000
to 160,000 years ago after the volcanic eruption (火山爆發(fā)). Lots of samples indicate that the lake is a rare
Maar Lake in the world after the volcanic eruption in the plain area.

At 2073 feet, the Shanghai Tower will top(超過(guò)) all the three. The design work began in 1993 and it will be finished in 2013.
