My little brother sat in the corner of the living room, with a pen in one hand and my father’s book in the other. As my father walked into the room, my brother knew that he did something wrong. And I just watched my brother scribble in the book. Now, he and I were both sure that my father would be very angry and we both waited for our father’s punishment.

My father picked up his book and looked at it carefully. I thought my father would hit my brother or at least shouted to us loudly. However, he was not angry and didn’t punish us, but took the pen and wrote in the book: John’s work, 1986, age 2. Then my father thanked my brother for scribbling in his book. He said my brother made the book special and meaningful. We were both surprised. But at that time we were too young to understand it.

The years came and went. We came to know what my father meant by doing so. From time to time we would open the book, look at the scribbles and read my father’s expression of love. My father taught us about what is really important in life; people are important, not the things you have. My father loved us, so he thought of the scribbles as artwork that made the book special. He taught me how to cherish and be good to everyone around us.

Now I’m a father, too. Unlike my father, I don’t wait for my daughters to take books from my book-shelf and scribble in them. I take one down and give it to them to scribble. As I look at their artwork, I think about my father and the lesson he taught me.

根據(jù)And I just watched my brother scribble in the book. He drew and wrote freely符合題意,故選C。

根據(jù)Then my father thanked my brother for scribbling in his book.

A. I take one down and give it to them to scribble. B. 我會打開書,欣賞我弟弟潦草的筆跡;根據(jù)look at the scribbles and read my father’s expression of love可知說法錯誤。C. 起初我明白我父親的意思;根據(jù)But at that time we were too young to understand it可知說法錯誤。D. 我女兒的藝術(shù)品使我想起了我父親的教訓(xùn);根據(jù)As I look at their artwork, I think about my father and the lesson he taught me可知說法正確。

As people use computers to store information, are they remembering less? If you know your computer will save information, why do you store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts(專家) are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.

In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow did some experiments(實驗). She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.

In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a computer folder. Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. However, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive memory (交互記憶)".

According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize much information so that they are able to find it later. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
