Long long ago, there was a poor family. The mother had a son. The son often went to steal(偷) things. Every time he brought something home, his mother was happy. Once he brought her some money. She did not ask him how and when he got it. She just said, “That’s very good.”

Many years passed, the little boy grew up and became a full?time thief. One day the police caught him and took him to the court(法庭). The judge(法官) said that he must die for his crimes (罪). But before dying, he could have one last wish. The son asked for his mother. He said that he wanted to see her tongue(舌頭). The mother came and stuck out(伸出) her tongue. Then the son bit(咬) his mother’s tongue, and it began to bleed(流血) immediately(立刻). Everyone was surprised. They wanted to know why he had hurt his mother.

The son answered, “My mother did not tell me that it is wrong to steal. And so I am here now.” The judge then decided that the son should not die. The son later became a good man, and lived to an old age.

  Last Sunday the elephant keeper at London Zoo, Jim Robson, was killed by one of the elephants he loved.This was terrible, and it could be a big problem for the future(將來(lái))of London Zoo-and maybe for all of Britain's city zoos.

  London Zoo said that it would move its three elephants to a wild(野生的)animal park outside London.Its director-general(總經(jīng)理), Michael Dioxn, said,“We are sorry that the elephants are leaving; there have been elephants at Lon-don Zoo since 1831.”
