【題目】 Everyone has his own birthday. People in different countries celebrate their birthdays in different ways. Now here are four people from different countries. They will tell us how they celebrate their birthdays in their countries.
Sandy comes from Madrid(馬德里) . She says happily, “My 21st birthday is on Saturday, and I’m going to go out with some friends. To wish me a happy birthday, they are going to pull on my ear 21 times, once for each year. It’s an old custom. Some people pull on the ear just once, but my friends are very traditional.”
Mr. and Mrs. Sato are from Tokyo. Mr. Sato is going to be 60 tomorrow. In Japan, the sixtieth birthday is called Kanreki(花甲)——it’s the beginning of a new life. The color red is for a new life, so we always give something red for a sixtieth birthday.

【題目】
Tuesday, Jan. 6, 9: 50 p.m. We are sitting in our warm living room; the TV is running; everything is peaceful. Our back yard is brightly lit(照亮的), as if somebody turns on floodlights! Suddenly the light goes out. Then everything goes black. We find the flashlight and some candles and go to bed. |
Wednesday, Jan. 7, 7: 30 a m. My first thought after waking up is that it is very cold in the bedroom. Clearly, the power has not come back on. After I look out of the window, I feel even more depressed because it is still raining heavily. The temperature in the house has gone down to 10 degrees. Although that isn’t too bad, we have no idea when the power will come back on. So Ron lights a fire in the fireplace. |
Thursday, Jan 8, 12: 30 p. m. It has started to snow. The poor trees, which are already bent(彎曲的)under the ice, now have to carry the weight of snow. Ron comes back home, as there is no power in his office. What’s more, the storm is supposed to last until Saturday morning. |

Saturday, Jan. 10, 1: 00 p. m I take the car to go on a search for a store. The destruction along the roads is sad: everywhere, trees have been broken and the traffic light is out of order. I buy something like bread, some fruit, more drinking water and cat food. |

【題目】 Most of us get our earliest life lessons from fairy tales, like “True love can overcome anything.” and “Even a frog can turn into a prince". However, at a certain age, we start to learn new things about life, especially that love doesn't always win, and that a frog is just a frog..
“Fairy tales have always been with us because they are the stories of our lives in their simplest form.” wrote US author Laura Packer on the National Storytelling Network website. “They are stories of love and loss, desire and death, riches and ruin.”
Fairy tales are all about reality (現(xiàn)實). But if children only see just one side of reality, adults usually see the other.
For example, in the 2014 film Maleficent, we’re told the tale of Sleeping Beauty from the eyes of the evil(邪惡的) queen. Unlike the children’s eyes of the story, we see that the queen wasn’t born evil. Instead, she is in a lot of troubles as she grows up, which leads to the creation of her “evil” side. And in US author James Finn Gamer’s book Politically Correct Bedtime Stories, he tells the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood, but with a modern version: When the wolf tells Red Riding Hood that it isn't safe for a little girl to walk through the woods alone, she calls the wolf sexist(性別歧視者), which relates to today’s opinions that girls aren't weaker than boys.
It seems that fairy tales aren't just stories that our parents read us at bedtime. They may usually start with "Once upon a time.” but as we grow older, we learn that every story doesn't always need a "Happily ever after" to be a good one.
【1】Which of the following is NOT a fairy tale?
A.The Frog Prince.
B.National Storytelling Network
C.Sleeping Beauty
D.Little Red Riding Hood.
【2】According to Packer, why have fairy tales always been with us?
A.Because true love can overcome anything
B.Because they are full of imagination.
C.Because they always have happy endings.
D.Because they are about our lives in their simplest form.
【3】What can we infer from the text?
A.A good fairy tale usually has a “Happily ever after”.
B.Adults usually see the other side of fairy tales.
C.Our understanding of fairy tales changes as we grow up.
D.Children and adults always enjoy different kinds of fairy tales.
【4】The best title of the passage may be
A.The True Love of Fairy Tales
B.Learning Life Lessons
C.The Dark Side of Fairy Tales
D.Troubles in Fairy Tales
