We sometimes say the lion is “the king of the jungle(叢林)” because it is stronger and more dangerous than the other animals. It can run faster than most other animals and it can hunt(捕獵) the best. The lion is the highest animal in the land food chain. In the sea, the shark is at the top of the food chain. It can swim faster than most other sea animals. It can also use its big teeth to catch other sea animals and eat them.
What is at the top of the world's food chain? People are! We are not the biggest or fastest, but we are the cleverest. We could not run faster than most animals, so we invented cars and now we can move the fastest. We could not fight better than a lion, so we invented guns. Now we can hunt the best.
People's inventions are clever, but they can be dangerous, too. For example, many years ago in Inner Mongolia, people used guns to kill a lot of wild wolves. The wild wolves usually eat wild rabbits. But in recent(近來的) years, the number of wild rabbits is becoming bigger and bigger because the number of wild wolves is getting smaller and smaller. The wild rabbits competed(競爭) for the grass with the sheep and cows. Much of the grassland became desert because it was seriously destroyed(毀壞) by the rabbits.
Remember that we are a part of the food chain, so we are in danger, too! If we protect animals, we are protecting ourselves.
1.How many kinds of food chains are mentioned in this passage?
[ ]
2.Why are people at the top of the world's food chain?
[ ]
A.Because they can use guns.
B.Because they are the biggest.
C.Because they are the cleverest.
D.Because they can drive cars.
3.Which order of the pictures best describes the third paragraph?
[ ]
4.In what way do we say people's inventions can be sometimes dangerous?
[ ]
A.They can kill a lot of wild wolves.
B.They can destroy the food chain.
C.They can destroy the grassland.
D.They can make wild rabbits grow bigger and bigger.
5.What is the best title(標(biāo)題) of the passage?

A few of years ago, I went to Australia for a meeting with my friend, Chris. We decided to drive across country to Brisbane after the meeting ended(結(jié)束). The drive was going to take four days and most of it was across the desert(沙漠), 1
The first day was a lot of fun as we were excited and laughing at each other's stupid(愚蠢的) jokes. By the third day of driving in the seemingly endless(無邊的) desert, we began to get bored. We had been quiet for a few hours when in the distance(在遠(yuǎn)處) Chris found some kangaroos(袋鼠). We were both excited and decided to get a closer(更近) look. 2 .We got closer and closer, and Chris was doing 110 kilometers per(每) hour. We were very close to the kangaroos—too close—when we heard a loud BANG!
Chris stopped the car and we got out. Behind the car was a larger kangaroo lying completely still on the ground. 3 He took off his sunglasses and put them on the kangaroo and did the same with his jacket. Then, he put his arm around the kangaroo and told me to take a photo of them together. 4 While I was focusing(聚焦) the camera, I saw the kangaroo move. It suddenly woke up(醒來), looked at Chris, and jumped away into the distance before we could do anything.
I started laughing(笑) but Chris looked very serious(嚴(yán)肅). 5 I started laughing even harder(更厲害). I stopped laughing, however, when he said that our car keys were also in the jacket!

A lift is wonderful. It is really only a small room. Rooms usually stay in one place. Lifts travel up and down all day long.
Sometimes a worker stands in the lift. He or she operates(操作)it up and down. In modern lifts there is no worker. The people walk in. They know which floor they want. They push a button(按紐)and the lift goes to the floor. It is very fast and easy.
Lifts are very important for us. Why? Think about a tall building. Maybe it has twenty floors. Maybe it has fifty or more. Who can walk up all the stairs? Perhaps people can climb them one time. Can someone climb thirty floors to an office everyday? Can small children walk up to their rooms on the twenty–forth floor? Can their mother and their father carry food up all those stairs? Of course not.
We can have high buildings because we have lifts. We could not have all the beautiful tall buildings in the world without lifts. They are really wonderful.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷正誤。正確(T),錯(cuò)誤(F).(10分)
1.The lift is a room’s name.
2.In modern lift there must be a worker operating it.
3.If you go into a modern lift, you can’t put any buttons.
