【題目】

A few months ago I was at a bus stop in town in the evening. The bus came on time and I took the window seat. The bus route was by the seashore and I was enjoying the breeze(微風(fēng))while watching the sea waves. After a fewminutes the bus made its next stop. A young boy and a girl got on. They were standing on my left. I looked at them curiously and realized that all the window seats were occupied(占據(jù)). They could sit but not together. Suddenly a different wave passed through my body and my inner mind gave me the advice to get up. I got up and offered them my seat. The young lady smiled kindly and said thanks. I occupied another seat. I don't remember whether 1 got off the bus before them or not.

Months passed by. Suddenly one day while I was standing at the same bus stop waiting some time for the bus to arrive, I heard a voice

“Excuse me, Uncle.” I looked in the direction of the voice. It was a beautiful young lady.

Puzzled, I said, “I do not know you.”

She said, "Do you remember you gave us your window seat?"

Puzzled, I said, “Maybe, but what is so great in that?”

She said, "If you had not given your seat that day, perhaps I would have not sat with my friend. By sitting together it helped us bridge a misunderstanding(誤會(huì))that had been between us forever. Do you know we will get married next month?"

“Good! God bless both of you,” I replied.

The young lady again said thank you and went on her journey. I realized the importance of giving that day.

【題目】

Welcome to our charming city, Ningbo and you will surely have a great time here. Probably you will come across some culture differences, especially the table manners. While having meals, the main difference on the Chinese dinner table is chopsticks instead of a knife and fork, but that's only superficial(表面的)一Besides, in the more upscale(高級(jí)的)restaurants, you can always ask for a knife and fork, if you find the chopsticks unavailable. The real difference is that in the West, you have your own plate of food, while in China the dishes are placed on the table and everyone shares. If you are being treated to a formal dinner and particularly if the host thinks you're in the country for the first time, he will do the best to give you a taste of as many different types of dishes as possible.

The meal usually begins with a set of at least four cold dishes, to be followed by the main courses of hot meat and vegetable dishes. Soup then will be served (unless in Guangdong style restaurants) to be followed by staple food (主食) ranging from rice, noodles to dumplings. If you wish to have your rice to go with other dishes, you should say so beforehand提前),as most of the Chinese prefer to have the staple food at the end of the meal or have none of at all.

Perhaps one of the things that surprises Western visitors most is that some of the Chinese hosts like to put food onto the plates of their guests. At formal dinners, there are always "serving" chopsticks and spoons for this purpose, but some hosts may use their own chopsticks. This should be taken as a sign of true friendship and politeness.

It is always poise to eat the food. If you do not want to eat it, just leave the food on the plate.

People in China tend to over-order food, as it is embarrassing to the host if all the food is finished.

When you have had enough, just say no. Or you will find yourself always overeating!
