Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to England! The weather of England is very changeable (易變的). It can be rainy, sunny,
cloudy, windy, stormy, warm, foggy, or cold at any time of the year. If it is raining when you get up in the
morning, it can be hot and dry by the afternoon. It may be sunny when you get up, but when you go out, it
may be rainy. So don't forget to take an umbrella with you. The west of England is wetter than the east, and
the north is cooler than the south. You should be ready for any kind of weather.
In England, shops are usually open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. On Sundays, some shops are open from
10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. But a lot of shops are closed. Banks, museums or other places are open from 10.00
a.m. to 5.00 p.m. You can go to the parks at any time.
All the cities have buses, trains and taxis. People wait in line for buses and they are unhappy if you push in

Climbing a mountain is hard work. But one step (腳步) after another finally brings a person to the
top. Along the way, he can stop and look around. And the higher he climbs, the more wonderful his view
is. If he keeps climbing, he will have a new world before him. He will have a new way to see everything.
Now learning a foreign language is something like climbing a mountain. This new language can give
you a new view of life. And it is more than a look at the surface of things. It can open the way into
people's minds and hearts and into a culture that is very different from your own culture. This will make
you richer, richer in things that money can't buy. Even though you never set foot (踏上) on a ship or a
plane, you can be an armchair traveler through books.
The mountain climber stops now and then to enjoy the scenery around him. Reading is just like this.
If you are interested in it, you will find fun in books.
1. Is climbing a mountain easy?

2. What will he have if he keeps climbing?

Many people like to travel by plane, but I don’t like it because the airport is usually far from the city.
You have to get there early and wait for hours for the plane to take off and it is often late. You can’t open
the windows. You can’t choose the food. Planes are fast, but they still take hours to go out of the airport
and into the city.
I like traveling by train. I think trains are safe. Railway stations are usually in cities. When you are late
for a train, you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and open the windows. You can
see many interesting things on your way. I know it takes a little more time. I also like cars. You can start
your journey when you want to, and you don’t need to get to a railway station or a bus stop. Also you can carry many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.
