     Yuan Longping,the father of hybrid rice (雜交水稻), won the World Food Prize on Monday. Yuan
developed the world's first popular and widely known hybrid rice. Hybrid rice plants can make more
rice than common ones.

     Liu Xiang won China's first gold medal in the world championships (錦標賽) in 12. 95 seconds.
     "Everybody wants to wm a world title. I was nervous before the race. But I dealt with it so I'm very
happy," Liu said with a smile after the race.
     Some reporters noticed that at the start, Liu Xiang was crying. He said that is his way of letting off
pressure. "My start wasn't good, maybe because I was nervous or because I was a bit slow," he said.
     Liu will run next at the Shanghai Grand Prix (大獎賽) meeting at the end of September. He is
confident (自信的) after winning the gold medal. "I want people to know how fast I am," he said.
"This is number one speed. There's nothing I can't do."

Putin."

     Guess who is the most successful young writer in China? It is 24-year-old Guo Jingming, who
earned $ 1.4 million last year, according to the Ne.7u York Times.
     Guo started his writing career in high school when he won first prize in a national writing contest
in 2001. His first book, City of Fantasy, came out soon after the contest and went on to sell more than

    Almost all Guo's novels include a shy hero who gets good grades. He mostly writes about the sad
feelings of his young characters. These teenagers deal with loneliness by sitting alone for long hours
