【題目】

Dear Dr. Green,

My relationship with my mother is worse and worse now. It seems she’s never tired of talking. She talks here and there, day and night. More seriously, I feel like we don’t have much in common. She doesn’t always understand what I’m trying to say. What should I do?

Yours,

Jim

Dear Jim,

I know how you feel. It’s not easy being your age. And it’s not easy being a mother, either.

It’s common for kids to have trouble talking with parents, and talkative mothers are not new to teenagers. But remember, she’s nagging (嘮叨) you because she just wants what’s best for you. Talking is her way to show love and care. And she also wants to know more about you. After a day’s work, she’s tired, too. But she will never be tired of caring about you. Kids should learn to understand and care about parents.

In my opinion, it’s helpful to share school life with her. Then, you talk and she listens. Doing some housework together with her is another good way for you two to know each other better. And if possible, often tell her your feelings about the things around you. Always keep in mind: be polite and patient.

Yours,

Dr. Green

【題目】 As the proverb says, “Your tongue has the power of life and death.” This means that your words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.

We may all experience the power of words in our life, even when we were very young. A child is blamed ( 責(zé) ) by teachers or parents, and after that, he might probably think of himself as a bad child. Most kids have that experience. They say it is important to praise children four times for each negative ( 負(fù) ) word. Blaming will make things worse, while positive words are helpful especially when being in trouble or in need. When we fail the exam, encouraging words from our teachers or parents make us work harder at our lessons. Encouraging words can go quite a long way. They lift people up. For example, encouraging words to someone who is sad can help them make it through the day. Words can have a powerful effect on your brain. And it will in turn ( 應(yīng) ) have a great influence on your action.

Everything you do depends on what you choose to do. It’s not your parents, your past relationships or your job, but you and only you that are responsible for every goal you set. 【題目】閱讀下面的短文,根據(jù)要求完成文后各小題。

As teenagers, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize, or they can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.

Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream true?

Follow Your Heart by Australian writer Andrews tells us that making our dreams true is life’s biggest challenge (挑戰(zhàn)).

In fact, everyone can make his dream come true. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is.

Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want. Do this step by step and your dream will come true faster because a big dream is, in fact, many small dreams.

You must also never give up your dream.

There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or it is impossible for you to become a writer. These kinds of thoughts stop you from getting your dream, the book says.

You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will lead to better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book. As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn more skills and find new interests.

1Translate the underlined sentence into Chinese.

2Find out the sentences from the passage that stand for “the biggest difficulty comes from yourself”.

3What should you do if you want to make your dream come true? (至少兩條)

4What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?

5Give a proper title to the passage.
