Zhong Nanshan—a Brave Fighter

Zhong Nanshan became a well known name in the fight against SARS in 2003. Seventeen years later, the new fight against COVID-19 put the 84-year-old doctor back in the spotlight (媒體和公眾的注意). As the leader of a high level expert group, he is really a hero who gives us the courage and power to fight against COVID-19 together.

Zhong was born into a medical family in October, 1936 in Nanjing. Both his parents were famous doctors. Because of them, Zhong made up his mind to study medicine to save lives at a young age. He set an example to his son. His son became a doctor, too.

With talent and hard work, Zhong graduated from Beijing Medical University in 1960. In the 1980s, he completed further training at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and later graduated from the University of Edinburgh. For years, Zhong has been working at Guangzhou Medical University. As a leading specialist in respiratory diseases (呼吸系統(tǒng)疾病的領軍人物), Zhong always puts patients first and provides them with the best treatments (治療).

Because of SARS in 2003, he has become a hero and won public trust. The photo of him falling asleep on the train to Wuhan touched many people’s hearts. Thanks to selfless (無私的 ) medical workers like Zhong, COVID-19 has been brought under control in our country. They are the heroes of the age of peace.
