Have you ever seen the Disney movie The Jungle Book(《奇幻森林》)?It's actually adapted(改編)from a book.
The Jungle Book is a collection of stories by the English writer Rudyard Kipling. The stories were first published in magazines in 1893~1894. Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England,he went back to India and worked there for about six and a half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Vermont of the US. It is said that the collection of stories was written for his daughter Josephine, who died in 1899 at the age of six.
The stories in the book are fables(寓言),using animal characters to give meaningful lessons. The poem The Law of the Jungle, for example, lays down rules for the safety of individuals(個(gè)人),families, and communities. Kipling put in nearly everything he knew or “heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle”.The best-known of them are the three stories about the adventure of Mowgli,an abandoned(遺棄的)human being who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. His amazing adventure of looking for other human beings and finding himself not only moves millions of the young, but also lots of adults.
From the book we can learn a lot. When we are in danger, how can we face the fear deep inside our minds? How can we get along well with our parents, friends and people around us? You can find all the answers in the book, believe it or not.

How to Make the Time for Your Personal Goals
One of the biggest challenges in trying to achieve any personal goal is that we want to put them off until tomorrow, or next week, in order to finish more important things at work and home. Maybe the following can help you find the time for your personal goals.
1.Make one goal at a time
Often the problem is that you try to make too many goals at once. You have a list of things you want to finish and because of that you never start. It’s very difficult to pay attention to too many goals at once. So catching one goal at a time is enough.
2. Be sure you really want it
It’s not enough to say, “It would be nice to learn French” or “It would be cool to do yoga(瑜伽) every morning”. It has to be something you really want. Ask yourself why you want to achieve this goal, and how much you want it.
3.Show that You’re serious
Tell as many people as you can about your goal. Write down your goal carefully. If you can’t even write it down, you’re not serious. Then write out a plan, with dates and actions. Think about problems, and write down your ways to solve them. The plan shows you’re serious.
4.Make it your top task
You all have many things to do in your lives, from school or work to family. If you put all these first, you won’t ever find the time for your goal. Instead, if we make our goal our top task, we’ll make the time.
With these steps, your goals surely come true.

【題目】Drawing on a New Friendship
Last Saturday,I went to the park to draw. When I finished the outline of a girl,a shadow(影子)fell across my drawing.
“That’s not a bad start”, said the shadow.“Do you have any finished drawings?” I looked up to see a girl about my age.
I was displeased that someone was looking at my drawing and interrupted me. "Not bad?" I asked.
"No need to be angry.”The girl handed a sketchbook(素描本)to me. "Want to look at my drawings?”
I felt curious and traded sketchbooks with her. Her sketches of people were okay, but I was really attracted by her drawings of nature, like trees, rocks, and rivers, all done with great detail.
"Wow!You have some talent,”I said. "What's your name?"
The girl took back her sketchbook and answered,“Emma Thompson.”
“I'm Alice Ruiz,”I said.“You draw so well. Are you in an art class?"
Emma replied,“No. The art class is full,so I have to wait until next term. Besides, you're a talented one. I really find it difficult to draw people, but you make it look easy.”
“I have a great idea!”I said.“Let's draw together! You can draw the nature views on one piece of paper while I draw the people on another. Then we'll exchange and finish each other's drawings. That way, both drawings would show off both of our talents!”
"That's not a bad idea,Alice,”Emma agreed.
About an hour later,we completed our drawings. I had drawn a boy walking with his dog. Emma had added a path and some flowers. Emma had drawn a beautiful tree, and I had added a girl reading under the tree.
“This was a fun idea,”I said.“Hey,Emma, would you like to meet me here again to draw together?"
“See you next Saturday,Alice,”Emma said with a smile.

【題目】 It is reported that some developed countries have shipped(運(yùn)往)broken parts of computers to China. Last month Hong Kong officers found 131,000 kilograms of broken computers,TVs and phones sent from Japan.
Things like these are called electronic waste,or ewaste. Dealing with them is not an easy job. Every time an old computer breaks down,it needs to be dealt with safely. What is worse,at present, broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they are really gone in the earth.
Many places in China are polluted by ewaste. Guiyu in Guangdong Province is one of them. This town is named as “the ewaste capital of the world”. It has to deal with 1.5 million kilograms of ewaste each year, from which it makes 75 million yuan. But it comes at a cost.
Many of the poisons in ewaste find their way into the environment. An environmental group has found the air,the earth and the rivers in Guiyu badly polluted.
Luckily, the Chinese government wants to change the situation. This year,China passed a new environmental protection law. Computer companies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. Hopefully, the problem with ewaste will be solved in the near future.

【題目】 閱讀表達(dá)
“Fire! Fire!” Students were running out of their classroom. They used some wet clothes to cover their mouths and noses. Was there a fire? No, it was just a fire drill(演習(xí)). On November 26th 2018, students of a middle school in Changsha learned some safety skills when a fire broke out.
What can we do to make our houses safer? Here are some suggestions. When you get your phone or computer charged (充電) .don’t put your phone or computer chargers (充電器) on your books or bed. And you should not charge for too long. Don’t use candles in your bedroom. Check to see if you have broken wires(電線) in your house, and change them at once. Always remember to turn off the lights when you leave your house.
What should we do if we are caught in a burning building? If the fire is big, stay low and get out quickly. Use wet clothes to cover your mouth and nose. Always use stairs and don’t use elevators(電梯), because elevators may break down anytime. If the room is full of smoke, keep close to the floor where the air is cleaner and cooler. Once help arrives, wave the flashlight or cloth at the window to let the firefighters know where you are.
It is very important for schools to train the students to get to know about some safety skills when a fire breaks out or when an earthquake happens, because no one knows what accident will happen next minute. If the schools are able to do more drills like this, fewer deaths and injuries will happen in our life.
