Every person has two sets (副)of teeth. The first set of twenty begins to grow when you are over six months old. The second set of thirty-two grows from the age of six until you are about twenty-one years old.

To help your teeth grow strong, you must drink plenty of milk and eat green vegetables. Then your body will have the right chemicals(化學(xué)物質(zhì))that build teeth.

You should brush your teeth after each meal. Then few bits of food will be left on or between them to cause decay(腐爛). Make sure that you turn the brush and go up and down as well as()brushing sideways(向側(cè)面地). Use dental floss(清牙齒用的牙線(xiàn))to make sure all food is removed(移走)from in between each tooth. If you can not brush your teeth after eating, rinse(沖洗)them with water, or eat an apple or a carrot.

Try to visit a dentist(牙醫(yī))every six months. If there is a hole in a tooth, he or she will fill it. If you do not have it filled, then the hole will grow larger. When a hole grows too big, the tooth may have to be taken out. It is better to keep all your second set of teeth for as long as possible. Filling a gap(豁口)where a tooth has come out with a kind of bridge and using a false(假的)tooth cost a lot of money.

Dear editor,

I live in a beautiful city. Many visitors come to my city every year because there are so many colorful peacocks (孔雀) here.

The peacocks mostly live on the grassland of Dongfeng Square. Visitors usually throw food to them, but they don’t think about at all whether the food is good or not. Some of the peacocks became ill, and some even died, eating the bad food given by visitors.

I’m sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like the bird, but they don’t realize that they may be doing them harm. Visitors should be told that what they have done is harmful to the birds, and this kind of thing must be stopped.

Perhaps we can build some small shops beside Dongfeng Square to sell peacock food. For us every person, it is our duty to give more love to these beautiful birds to look after them carefully.

Life is full of difficulties, from birth to death. When we face with problems, we often feel, “I am the only one having such problems.” Or, we exaggerate (放大) our problems and regard them as most painful. But if we look around us, we find other people may be in much worse conditions.

Life is not always full of smiles and flowers. Every person has his own difficulties no matter who and where he is. So it's very important to have a correct attitude in your life. Only with the correct attitude can you face up all of your difficulties and finally overcome (戰(zhàn)勝) them. First, you have to believe in yourself. That's the secret of success. Second, don't blame others when you have difficulties, because it can neither help you avoid difficulties nor help you solve them. And the most important thing is that don't run away or give up. Use your ability to clear the difficulties that appear in your life. Third, remember how you overcome the difficulty because it may help you avoid similar trouble next time. Ask three people to look out the same window at a busy street corner and tell you what they see. Chances are you will receive three different answers. Each person sees the same scene(場(chǎng)景), but each perceives(察覺(jué))something different about it.

Perceiving goes on in our minds. Of the three people who look out the window, one may say that he sees a policeman giving a motorist a ticket(罰單). Another may say that he sees a rush-hour traffic jam at the intersection. The third may tell you that he sees a woman trying to cross the street with four children in tow(拉著). For perception(感知) is the mind’s interpretation of what the senses—in this case our eyes—tell us.

Many psychologists(心理學(xué)家) today are working to try to determine just how a person experiences or perceives the world around him. Using a scientific approach, these psychologists set up experiments in which they can control all of the factors. By measuring and charting the results of many experiments, they are trying to find out what makes different people perceive totally different things about the same scene.
