A student in a university was one day taking a walk with a professor. As they went along, they was a pair
of old shoes lying in the path, which they supposed to belong to a poor man.
The student turned to the professor, saying, "Let us play the man a trick: we will hide his shoes, and hide
ourselves behind those trees, and wait to see his perplexity (窘迫) when he cannot find them."
"My young friend," answered the professor, "we should never play jokes on others because of their being
poor. Put a coin into each shoe, and then we will hide ourselves and watch how the discovery affects him."
The student did so, and they both hid themselves behind the bushes. The poor man soon finished his work,
and came across the field to the path where he had left his coat and shoes. While putting on his coat he slipped
his foot into one of his shoes and found the coin. He then looked around him on all sides, but no person was to
be seen. He put the money into his pocket. When he put on the other shoe, he found the other coin. He fell
upon his knees, looked up to the sky and said aloud a fervent (熱誠的) thanksgiving to the person who gave
him the coins.
The student stood there deeply moved, and his eyes was filled with tears. "Now," said the professor, "are
you not much better pleased than if you had played your intended trick?"

Are you eager (渴望) to go back to school? Do you hope to do a lot of homework every evening? Are
you interested in your classes? Who do you want to teach your subjects? Why do you like them? Maybe
you have lots of questions before school starts.
Well, I want to give you some advice on these questions.
First, keep calm. Don't worry about all the questions. Put your hearts into learning. You can find
something you are interested in. Do it actively.
Second, try to finish your homework quickly. Don't spend a lot of time on it. Do more reading and
writing in English. Think about the questions and work them out at once. Don't stay up late, or you can't
study well the next day.
Third, invent something instead of copying. If you can remember the words in your own way, you can
tell your teachers you don't like the way of copying them again and again. Be sure, you must pass the test.
I think your teachers will agree with you. And they can give you some interesting work to do.
