【題目】 Apollo, a 5monthold pit bull puppy(比特犬), is getting extra hugs today, after saving his owner's girlfriend from a terrible attack.
According to the New York Post, 18yearold Maya Fairweather was visiting her boyfriend, Carlos Guzman, at his apartment in the Red Hook neighborhood in Brooklyn New York, on Monday night. Around 10 pm, the teen decided to take Guzman's puppy, Apollo, for a walk.
Once she reached a nearby Park, Fairweather let the pit bull off his rope so he could run around on the grass. Meanwhile, she kept a close watch on him, listening to music through her headphones. “I felt someone pulling my headphones,” she told the New York Post. “I thought it was my boyfriend joking me, so I turned around and smiled—but it wasn't my boyfriend.”
Instead it was an unfamiliar man, who started attacking Fairweather, pushed her to the ground and tried to control her arms. After struggling with the attacker for a few moments, the girl was saved by her protective puppy. Apollo raced to the scene and bit the attacker's leg.
The puppy bit down so hard that the stranger was forced to take his attention off Fairweather to try to shake the dog off. The girl used the moment of distraction(分散注意力)to run across the street and escape.
Finally, Apollo set the attacker free, who ran away. “He was protective,” Fairweather said about the dog's heroic deed. “I think it would have been a lot worse. I wouldn't have been so lucky.”
After that, Fairweather, who was not harmed during the attack, returned to Guzman's apartment with Apollo. Guzman's sister took Fairweather to a local police station to report the attack. The police are now searching for the man.
Fairweather is really grateful for the role Apollo played in her escape, but is surprised that the dog came to her rescue. “He is a sweet dog. I never thought he would bite anyone. He never bit anyone before. He's usually very friendly and just jumps on everyone,” she said.

5 Tips for Language Learning Success
Learning a foreign language can be difficult but if you follow certain techniques, soon you’ll be able to learn any language. Although there’s no easy way to go about it, the following tips will increase your ability to succeed in language learning.
【1】.
It is natural to feel uncomfortable in a language class. A language course is different from most other courses you will ever take. Not understanding and making mistakes are a very natural part of the language learning process. Accept the fact that you will not understand everything. In fact, at the very beginning, you will not understand much at all.
【2】.
Research shows that language students learn more effectively when they study more often and for shorter periods of time than study less often and for longer periods of time. Try to study each day, and whenever possible, several times a day.
【3】.
Whenever possible, speak the language aloud rather than reciting it silently to yourself. Say vocabulary words out aloud, read passages in the text aloud, do pronunciation activities aloud and not just silently. The process of using language from your mind to your mouth is a skill that requires a great deal of practice.
【4】.
Meet regularly with classmates to work together on homework assignments, to learn vocabulary, to study for tests, or just to practice speaking the language. Communication does not only happen between the teacher and students but more among you and your classmates.
【5】.
There is no “best” way to learn a language, because everyone learns a bit differently. Find your own personal strengths and let them help you in your learning process. It is more important for you to learn, to think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.
A. Be always confident of yourself.
B. Discover your own way to learn the language.
C. Set possible expectations.
D. Break study time into smaller parts.
E. Practice language actively.
F. Make study groups.

【題目】 The following are some important reasons why you need to set goals for yourself.
【1】 Having a goal written down with a set date for accomplishment(完成)gives you something to plan and work for.
【2】 Most of us have big dreams that seem impossible to accomplish. It's easy to feel disappointed when you're staring at a difficult task. Proper goal setting can help break larger aspirations(愿望)into smaller and more achievable stepping stones.
【3】 Sometimes, looking back on a goal you set for yourself six months, or one year ago, you realize that you were supposed to accomplish a lot more than you actually did. It's a sign that whatever you're doing isn't working. So you need to make real changes if you want to get where you want to be.
【4】 There are times when we set goals that don't really show what we want. Sometimes we think we need more money, when we really need a change of environment. By asking ourselves what we really want and continually reconsidering our goals, we can find out what we really want in life.
【5】 Imagine you're on vacation. Wouldn't you want to find out exactly what you want to see with the limited(有限的)time? In many ways, life is like a vacation. We're given a limited amount of time to pursue the experiences we want and then before you know it, it's time to go. Without a clear sense of what you want to do you'll never be able to live life to the fullest.
A. Goals move you forward.
B. Goals help you live life to the fullest.
C. Goals help you make more money.
D. Goals hold you accountable (對……負(fù)責(zé)) for failure.
E. Goals tell you what you truly want.
F. Goals help to turn difficult tasks into easy ones.

【題目】Do You Go To Sleep In Class?
The “Acronym”, our student newspaper, reports that most students go to sleep at 1: 30 a. m. Even if that’s an exaggeration(夸張), it’s too close to the truth. Scientists say teenagers should sleep nine hours each night. But that’s hard to do.
Some even “pull all-nighters”. These are lazy students who have homework due to(到期) the next day that they haven’t done. In the morning they don’t look healthy and you can tell who has been doing it.
One of my classmates did a survey(調(diào)查) on the problem. She found that most kids pull all-nighters to finish homework, but some do it for other reasons, such as playing computer games!
Maybe our lack of sleep is because of laziness — I think I’m a lazy student — or maybe it’s because we have too much to do in American high schools.
I usually go to bed around midnight. If I stayed up past 1: 30 a. m., I wouldn’t get any work done. I’d be falling asleep at my computer. My classes begin at 7:30 a.m. I’m partly awake in my first class. By the second, I’m slightly tired and sleepy. By my third class, I’m sleepy. By midday I’m finally wide-awake. But by 3: 00 p. m., I’m slowing down again.
Most American high schools seem to have such a problem.
High school classes start at 7: 30 a. m., so students have to wake up one and a half hours before that to get ready and catch the bus. It’s believed that lack of sleep can do harm to both grades and health.
Some schools are paying attention. Classes in those schools start at 8:30 a. m.
【1】What’s the problem talked about in the passage?
A.Many kids have too much homework to do.
B.Many teenagers don’t have enough sleep.
C.Many children are crazy about playing computer games.
D.Many kids are too lazy to finish their homework on time.
【2】The underlined expression “pull all-nighters” most probably means ________.
A.開夜車B.上夜班C.睡懶覺D.補(bǔ)作業(yè)
【3】Which of the following is NOT a reason mentioned in the passage?
A.Laziness.B.Homework.C.Housework.D.Computer games.
【4】What’s the idea suggested at the end of the passage?
A.Later start of classes.B.Less homework.
C.Going to bed early.D.Eating healthy food.

【題目】 Xiao Li, a college student born after 1995, used to wash her hair every two days. But as the weather has got colder, she has become lazier. She bought a mist spray(免洗噴霧), which allows her to wash her hair less often.
She is not the only you Chinese who spends money because she's lazy According to a report in December by Taobao on Chinas lazy economy(經(jīng)濟(jì)), Chinese people spent 16 billion yuan on products and services online in 2018. The post-1995(95后)generation was the laziest as its consumption(消費(fèi))increased by 82 percent, compared with that in 2017.
The so-called lazy economy refers to a new type of consumption of products and services which are designed to save time and labour.
According to the report, many people of the post-1995 generation buy high-tech electronic devices such as floor mopping robots and automatic window cleaners, which save the trouble of doing housework. Meanwhile, take-out food delivery services are also popular among people born after 1995.
Young people are willing to spend money on such products so that they can enjoy their spare time after a busy and stressful day at work or school. Besides, they can also focus on their studies or jobs, these so-called lazy people tend to use their spare time more freely.
While the lazy economy might be convenient for young people, it might also create problems. The lazy economy is expressed in things like people buying food or other things without leaving their living places. As a result, they stay in their houses all day long, playing on computers and phones. This situation could lead to young people becoming less sociable and even developing problems of communicating with others. Young people should pay more attention to it.
The lazy economy is a choice of lifestyle. While the lazy economy saves time and labour, the saved time should be used to do valuable things.
