flower verges
Plantlife, a plant protection organization, is predicting a boost for wild flowers because some councils (地方議會) have stopped mowing (割) wild flower verges or parks in Britain during the COVID- 19 crisis.
Over the years, Plantlife has been urging councils to cut grass less often. It also wants them to put off cutting until flowers have had chance to seed.
The charity says it has seen a change in attitudes in recent years. Now Plantlife's research suggests that mowing has been among the first activities to be cut under the COVID-19 crisis. That's partly because staff are sick or self-isolating (自我隔離), and there is a need to save money as budgets are squeezed (財(cái)政預(yù)算緊張). Mr. Dines from Plantlife said that an increase in public support for wild flower verges had already persuaded some councils to limit cutting, which was a fairly welcome change.
In Stockton-on-Tees Borough, grass cutting will be limited to the least levels with the exception of areas where it is needed to ensure public safety. For example, to maintain lines of sight at road junctions (路口). In Newcastle, grass cutting will stop for the time being. In Wigan, the maintenance of non-essential grass cutting will also be stopped for the foreseeable future. Its council has acted quickly to rearrange staff to frontline services, such as trash bin collections.
Meanwhile, the reduction of traffic during the COVID-19 crisis will produce another benefit for wild flowers. Typically, roadside verges are filled with nitrogen emissions This fertilizes (使肥沃) the tougher species which can use the nitrogen to grow and out-compete more delicate wild flowers. Mr. Dines said: "There has been a great change in the quality of air-we can see so much more clearly into the distance. The lack of pollutants is going to help wildflowers on verges."

根據(jù)第2大段“Plantlife has been urging councils to cut grass less often. It also wants them to put off cutting until flowers have had chance to seed.”
根據(jù)第4大段“In Stockton-on-Tees Borough, grass cutting will be limited to the least levels with the exception of areas where it is needed to ensure public safety.”在Stockton-on-Tees Borough,除需要確保公共安全的地區(qū)外,除草將被限制在最低水平;再根據(jù)第4大段“In Wigan, the maintenance of non-essential grass cutting will also be stopped for the foreseeable future.” 故選A。
根據(jù)第4大段“In Stockton-on-Tees Borough, grass cutting will be limited to the least levels with the exception of areas where it is needed to ensure public safety.” 芍皇菑氐淄V,故A錯(cuò)誤;根據(jù)第3大段“That's partly because staff are sick or self-isolating (自我隔離), and there is a need to save money as budgets are squeezed”那可能因?yàn)槁殕T生病或者自我隔離,也因?yàn)樨?cái)政預(yù)算緊張省錢的需要?芍⒉皇侨藛T減少決定了除草活動,故B錯(cuò)誤;根據(jù)第4大段“Its council has acted quickly to rearrange staff to frontline services, such as trash bin collections.” 可知,人員是從除草安排到垃圾桶收集部門,而不是從垃圾收集部門到除草,故C錯(cuò)誤;根據(jù)第5大段“This fertilizes (使肥沃) the tougher species which can use the nitrogen to grow and out-compete more delicate wild flowers.”。
根據(jù)第1大段“Plantlife, a plant protection organization, is predicting a boost for wild flowers because some councils (地方議會) have stopped mowing (割) wild flower verges or parks in Britain during the COVID- 19 crisis” Plantlife,一個(gè)植物保護(hù)組織,預(yù)測一種活動能促進(jìn)野花生長,因?yàn)橐恍┑胤阶h會已停止割草。
