Birds can fly and bats can, too. But, is a bat a kind of bird? No, a bat is not a kind of bird. They are
different animals.
A bat has four legs. A bird has only two. Bats have teeth and birds have no. Bats have large ears but
bird's ears only holes in the head.
All bats like to eat insects (昆蟲). They eat at night and sleep in the daytime. In the evening bats are
busy flying and catching insects. Its legs help it to fly. The piece of skin (皮膚) joins them together. It is
just like a wing.
Some people think bats can't see. In fact it is not true. Bats have eyes, but they cannot see well. Bats
have better ears than men have. They can hear things which people can't. They can feel where a thing is.

Recently some houses in our community have been broken into. I would like to give you some suggestions about how to prevent from stealing (盜竊).
First, let’s talk about lighting. We should turn on the outside lights at night. Inside the house, it’s a good idea to put automatic timers (自動定時器) on lights. When you are out, it will still look like someone is at home. If you live in an apartment building, make sure that there’s good lighting in the garage and in the hallways.
Next, let’s talk about locks. First of all, cheap locks are not safe. You should buy special locks to lock your doors and windows. 83 Remember to lock your doors and windows, even when you leave for just a minute. Did you know that half of the thieves break in through unlocked doors and windows?
My next suggestion is not to keep lots of money in the house. It’s wise to put your money in a bank. You should put marks on your other valuables, like television, stereos and cameras, so that the police can return them to you if they are found.
84Believe it or not, if you follow all of these suggestions above, your house will be safer.

Michael went back to Fullerton, his home town. His visit to Fullerton was very special to him. He was born there, he grew up there. But he hadn’t been back there since he finished high school.

He went to places he hadn’t gone to in years. He walked through the park and remembered the days he had walked through that same park with his friend. He passed by the field where he and his friends had played baseball every day after school. And he stood in front of the movie theater and thought about all the Saturday afternoons he had spent there, watching his favorite movie heroes and eating popcorn.

He did things he hadn’t done in a long time. He had some home-made ice cream at the ice cream shop. He rode on the merry-go-round in the park, and he went fishing at the lake. For a little while, he felt like a kid again.

He saw people he hadn’t seen in years. He visited several of his old neighbors. He said hello to the owners of the candy store near his house. And he also went to see Mrs. Riley, his tenth-grade science teacher.

Michael’s trip back to Fullerton was a very nostalgic (懷舊的) experience for him. Going back to Fullerton brought back many memories of days gone by.
