“Oh boys, don’t throw stones at the poor bird,” said an old grey-headed man, “Sir,” said a little fellow, “she makes such a loud noise that we can’t suffer from her.” “Yes, but she uses the voice which nature gave her, and I am afraid the stone will rebound(彈回), and hurt you as long as you live!” “Rebound! We don’t understand you, sir!” “Well, come and I will tell you a story.”

“Fifty years ago, I was a boy like you. I used to throw stones until I became very accurate. One day I went to work for an old couple. They were very kind to everybody and everything. Few had so many birds making their nests under the roofs of their houses. The birds seemed to love the couple. For seven years a bird had come, after the long winter was over, and built her nest in the same place, and raised her young chicks there. She and her mate had just returned when I went there to work, and the couple welcomed them heartily. The bird hopped hopped about as if glad to be back. During the day, I thought I would try my skill upon her. She sat on a pole and looked at me trustfully. I found a nice stone, and I threw it with my utmost skill. It struck the bird on the head and she droped dead!”

“I was sorry when I saw her fall. But the deed was done. I said nothing to the old couple about it. But one of their grandchildren told them what I had done. Though the couple never said a word to me, I knew that they were deeply saddened by my cruelty. I could never look at them in the face afterwards. Oh, that I should have told them how sorry I was!”

“They have been dead many years, and so has the poor bird; but don’t you see how that stone rebounded, and hit me? How much the memory of it has hurt me! My dear boys, I would pay a great deal today if I could release from my present feeling! For fifty years I have remembered it. I have never spoken of it before; but if what my words will prevent you from throwing a stone that may rebound, I will be happy.”

1What kind of skill did the author get when he was a boy?

2How can we know that the bird was happy to meet the couple again?

3Why couldn’t the author look at the couple in the face afterwards?

4According to the author, what would hurt the boy for lifetime if he threw stones at the bird?

5Why did the author tell his story to the boy?

6What would the boy probably do after hearing the author’s words? (At least two things)

1He could throw stones accurately.

2For seven years, she came back and built her nest under the roof of their houses.

3Because he knew that the couple were deeply saddened by his cruelty and he was very sorry.

4The memory of killing a bird.

5He wanted to stop the boy from hurting the bird and avoid the boy's regret later.

6The boy may throw away the stone and may also thank the old man.(答案不唯一,只要言之有理,符合邏輯關(guān)系即可)

根據(jù)Though the couple never said a word to me, I knew that they were deeply saddened by my cruelty. I could never look at them in the face afterwards. Because he knew that the couple were deeply saddened by his cruelty and he was very sorry.

根據(jù)I have never spoken of it before; but if what my words will prevent you from throwing a stone that may rebound, I will be happy. He wanted to stop the boy from hurting the bird and avoid the boy's regret later.

The boy may throw away the stone and may also thank the old man.(本題為開放性試題,考生可以根據(jù)自己的理解來解答,只要表述合理,符合邏輯關(guān)系即可。)

Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, “Friends are God's way of taking care of us.” But how do you find real friendship and keep it?

First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints(抱怨)and do his or her best to help you. To make a friend, you can't be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your life.

But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, talk to him or her honestly. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you can write a letter.

There are some steps to be friends again. Tell him or her how you are feeling; say what your friend did is wrong and explain why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.

Christmas is one of the happiest times of the year. It’s time we spend with family members, giving gifts to each other and eating plenty of delicious food. However, at the same time it can also be a nervous time. You have to spend much time and money planing and buying presents for everyone. You need to clean the rooms or even clear some of them out and put up the Christmas tree, the decorations and the balloons. And you have to communicate with your friends and relatives whom you perhaps wouldn’t usually spend so much time with. So what can we do to deal with these things to enjoy the happy season to the fullest?

Usually, you have to face the busy shops to do your Christmas shopping during this holiday. That can make you stressed out. To stay calm (冷靜的) during this holiday, you can start your shopping early. In other words, you can buy presents for people before Christmas comes so that you can save yourself some money. What’s more, you can buy your presents on the Internet, which means that you can find anything you can think of, and you can do it in your living room. It’s much cheaper, so you can save money.

Did you once drink more than usual, eat cakes you didn’t want or do something else which leave you feeling tired? Remember that it’s your right to enjoy Christmas the way you want to and that you should take no notice of those who tell you that you’re not being Christmassy.

Finally, you’d better have low expectations (期望). If your expectations are high, you will make yourself upset. Don’t let yourself be pressured (迫使) into making the Christmas perfect. So, just be satisfied to have a pleasant evening with your family and let what happens happen.

How to solve Christmas 1

Introduction

Christmas is a happy family time but it also make us nervous.

Causes
