Dear Know,
I need some advice on how to make friends! I have just moved to a new city. I am 13. I don’t know anybody here and I want to make some friends. What's the best way? Where can I meet people?
Yours
Tony
Dear Tony,
There are lots of things you can do. First, you can ride your bike in your neighborhood and try to find some kids. When you find some, you can go up and talk to them. You should also let your parents know that you want to make friends because they can help you. Maybe you can ask your parents to take you to the library or some places where there are lots of kids. You could try joining an art class or sports club. These are all great ways to meet people. You can try making friends at churches(教堂)too if you go to church on Sundays. Try to be active wherever you are, but just be yourself and don't try so hard. It takes time and patience (耐心). I hope you will find a best friend soon!
Yours,
Know

We know good manners(禮貌) are important. Today I am going to tell you something about manners in different countries. I think you already know that people in different countries usually have different ways of doing things. Something that is rude in one country may be quite polite in another. For example, in Britain you mustn't lift your bowl to your mouth when you are having liquid food. That is considered bad manners in Britain. But in Japan you needn't worry about making a noise when you drink something.
It shows that you are enjoying it. In Britain we try not to put our hands on the table at all during a meal. In Mexico, however, guests are expected to keep their hands on the table throughout a meal. In Arabic countries we must be careful with our hands. You see, in Arabic countries you mustn't eat with your left hand. This is considered to be very impolite. So, what should you do if you visit a foreign country? Well, you needn't worry. You can ask the native people there to help you and you can just watch carefully and try to do what they do.

B.mouth
C.eyes
D.hands
(2)In Britain we try not to put our hands _______ during a meal.

D.in the pocket
(3)Which of the following is TRUE?
A.In different countries, the manners are the same.

【題目】Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12,a white gardenia(梔子花)was sent to my house. No card came with it.Calls to the flower shops were not helpful at all. After a while I stopped trying to discover the sender's name and was just very pleased with the beautiful white flower in soft pink paper.
But I never stopped imagining who the giver might be, Some of my happiest moments were spent daydreaming about the sender. My mother encouraged this imagining. She'd ask me if there was someone for whom I had done a special kindness. Perhaps it was the old man who I looked after when he was ill. As a girl, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy.
One month before my graduation, my father died. I felt very sad and didn't want to go to the coming graduation dance at all. And I didn't care whether I had a new dress or not. But my mother, in her own sadness, would not let me miss any of those things. She wanted her children to feel loved and lovable. In truth, my mother wanted her children to see themselves much like the gardenia-lovely, strong and perfect with perhaps a bit of mystery.
My mother died ten days after I was married. I was 22. That was the year the gardenia stopped coming.
