【題目】

You are visiting the Big Ben in England, but the next second you are in France. Then, suddenly you may see some animals that have disappeared. But you are not in a wonderland. This is what might happen to you in the near future, with the help of VR (虛擬現(xiàn)實(shí)) technology.

VR is a computer technology that creates an environment and allows users to see and even interact (互動(dòng)) with it. Just wear a pair of VR goggles (護(hù)目鏡) connected to your computer and you can experience a lot of things without stepping out of your room.

“The most attractive part of VR is that it offers an immersive experience. You become a part of the story. That's why VR movies are popular among users.” said Wang Bing, leader of the Chinese entertainment company Funshow.

According to the Report on Chinese VR Users' Behavior announced last month, over 960, 000 people in China have bought VR products and 83.2% of them have watched VR movies.

The use of VR is not only used in entertainment. VR can help to train pilots (飛行員) and workers before they have to actually risk their lives in highly dangerous working environments. VR also helps to treat patients with acrophobia (恐高癥) by making them think they are standing on top of a tall building.

__________. Users said they had headaches and felt sick while wearing VR goggles.

【題目】People drink alcohol() in many parts of the world. Some medical scientists say light drinking may even be good for your health, especially for the heart. But they say such health benefits(好處) should be compared to the many health risks connected with alcohol use.

Some research suggests that having one to two drinks of alcohol a day may be good for your health. Several large studies have shown that this type of drinking may lower the risk of heart disease and other diseases.

A study last year suggested that drinking a little red wine may help lower the risk of breast cancer(乳腺癌) in women. Researchers at Medical Center in California studied 36 women. Each woman drank a glass of red or white wine every day for almost a month. Researchers collected blood samples(樣本) from the women two times a month to test their hormone(激素) levels. The next month these women were told to exchange their wine. The researchers found that the women who drank red wine had lower levels of the female hormone than the white wine drinkers. They said red grapes have chemicals that may help to lower the risk of breast cancer.

However, recent studies suggested that even a little alcohol may generally increase the risk of breast cancer in women. They found that women who drink four small glasses of wine a week increase their risk of breast cancer by 15 percent.

Many studies have examined the harmful effects of alcohol use on the body. Alicia Ann Kowalchuk serves as medical director, saying “Healthy use for adults --- that's men under age 65 --- is no more than 4 drinks in a day and no more than 14 drinks in a week. And for women of all ages, it's no more than 7 drinks in a week and no more than 2 drinks in a day.” She says too much alcohol use has something to do with liver (肝臟) diseases, and many other cancers.

1How did the researchers carry out their study?

A. By following an example. B. By listing facts.

C. By collecting information worldwide. D. By comparing tested objects.

2Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?

A. B. C. D.

3What is the best title of this passage?

A. Alcohol drinking may do harm to your health

B. Alcohol drinking can be both good and bad for you

C. Drinking alcohol is popular in many parts of the world

D. Drinking alcohol a day may give your health some benefits.

【題目】

Cruises are becoming more and more popular, with around 20 million passengers per year now enjoying holidays on board luxury ( 奢侈的 ) ships. More people see a cruise as the perfect way to sit back and do nothing, and enjoy time off work. But what is the effect on the environment of this trend?

Although it usually takes less energy for a vehicle to move through water than over land, cruise ships are often massive, with the biggest ones carrying up to 6,000 passengers. Moving such large vehicles requires huge engines which bum as much as 300,000 litres of fuel a day. One scientist has calculated that cruise ships create as much pollution as 5 million cars going over the same distance. Because they are out at sea, they also burn dirtier fuel that isn't allowed on land. Unfortunately, no government has control over the amount of air pollution out at sea. Cruises also produce huge amounts of rubbish, and cruise ships aren’t usually good at recycling. Waste water from showers and toilets is usually poured directly into the sea - as much per day as from a small town. Waste food from restaurants isn’t put into the sea, but still causes problems when brought back to the land.

Cruise ships also cause difficulties in the cities where they stop. Popular destinations can get five or six ships per day, with thousands of tourists at a time. Good for restaurants? No. Restaurant owners complain that the visitors look around for a few hours and then return to their ship to eat. What’s more, the crowds can put off other tourists, who complain that the streets are too busy.

Some towns have banned (禁止) cruise ships or put a limit on the number that can stop at the same time. People who care about the environment worry that as the cruise industry continues to grow, so will the issues for our planet.

A. they carry large numbers of cars and passengers as well

B. it takes more energy to move through water than over land

C. they use types of fuel that are not allowed on land

D. their engines are not as powerful as those of other vehicles

4How is waste water dealt with on cruise ships?

A. It’s brought into a town. B. It’s properly recycled.

C. It’s thrown away at sea. D. It's stored in the ships.

5Why are cruise ship passengers not popular in some cities?

A. They don’t spend money on meals.

B. They fill up the restaurants and make noise.

C. They complain when the city is too crowded.

D. They are sometimes rude to other tourists.

6The purpose of the passage is to________.

【題目】All living things need energy to live and grow. This energy comes first from the sun. Plants use water and sunlight to make their own food. Animals can not make their own food, and they eat plants. Other animals then eat the plant eaters.

A food chain shows what eats what. It might show that zebras eat grass and then lions eat zebras.

Lions also eat other animals. Zebras eat other kinds of plants. So it takes more than one food chain to show how lions and zebras get their energy.

A food web shows how food chains work together. From it we can see how energy moves from plants to animals.

Plants and animals that live in hot, dry deserts depend on water as well as food. Creosote bushes have small leaves that hold water. Their seeds provide food and water for kangaroo rats. Kangaroo rats don’t need to drink water. They get all the water they need from the plants they eat. Kangaroo rats keep cool by coming out only at night to look for food. Ringtail cats also come out only at night. Ringtail cats hunt and eat kangaroo rats. Coyotes eat both the kangaroo rats and the ringtail cats.

Nothing is wasted in a food wed. Vultures eat dead animals. Vultures are scavengers. Scavengers do not hunt and kill other animals to get food. They eat animals that are already dead. When a ringtail cat or a coyote dies, it makes a meal for the vultures. Scavengers do an important job in keeping the environment clean.

1Where does the energy that living things need first come from?

A. Animals. B. Plants. C. The sun. D. Plant eaters.

2Why do ringtail cats come out only at night?

A. Because they are afraid of coyotes. B. Because they are shy animals.

C. Because it is very hot in the daytime. D. Because they can eat kangaroo rats.

3What kind of animal can be placed in the empty box of the picture?

A. Kangaroo. B. Vulture. C. Cat. D. Zebra.

4Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A. Lions eat different kinds of animals. B. Plants are on the top of the food chain.

C. Scavengers can keep the environment clean. D. Some animals get water from the plants they eat.
