【題目】請認真閱讀下面短文,在短文后表格中的空白處填入適當?shù)膯卧~(注意:每空1個單詞)。

We don’t know how different our life will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it.

At first we think about human relationship. In the year 2050, we will use computers almost every day. We will be making new friends through the Internet—even husbands and wives will meet in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. However, human relationship won’t be as important as it is today—we will feel a little lonely.

Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be used by the children at school to make their learning easier. Moreover, there will be much more other machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots, which will help children with their homework.

Spending holidays will also be completely different. Travelling to other planets or to the Moon will be possible for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change too. We will be using solar- powered(太陽能) cars, which will be much cleaner.

We could expect that the faster technology progress would lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn’t true. We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. And scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS. Therefore, our environment as well as health will be in better condition.

【題目】Have you ever felt a strong emotion (情緒), but not been able to find the right word to describe it? Maybe there is a word for it, but you just don’t know it yet. One man is trying to help fix this problem. University of East London psychology researcher Tim Lomas is making a list of words from different languages around the world. The words have no exact equivalent(對等的) words or phrases in the English language. Perhaps the most famous example is “schadenfreude”, the German word describing pleasure at the bad luck of others.

Borrowing from as many languages as he could, Lomas searched for “untranslatable” experiences and published them in The Journal of Positive Psychology last year. His study is called the Positive Lexicography Project. Lomas has focused mostly on happy moments. He hopes that learning these words will enrich (使豐富) people’s lives. So now, thanks to the Portuguese(葡萄牙語), when you run your fingers through a loved one’s hair you can call it “cafune”. Or you can use the Spanish word “estrenar” to describe the feeling when you wear or use something for the first time. The Germans describe the good mood at the end of a working day as “feierabend”, while the Norwegians describe the feeling of sitting around a warm fireplace as “peiskos”.

“The limits of our language are said to define the boundaries of our world,” Lomas wrote for The Conversation. “If we lack (缺乏) a word for a particular positive emotion, we are far less likely to experience it.”

1What is psychology researcher Tim Lomas working on?

A. He is studying people’s strong emotions.

B. He is improving the old English dictionaries.

C. He is making a list of words to describe people’s emotions.

D. He is trying to explain the differences between languages in the world.

2What does the underlined word “schadenfreude” in the first paragraph mean in Chinese?

A. 樂極生悲 B. 幸災(zāi)樂禍 C. 苦盡甘來 D. 火上澆油

3Which of the following is NOT true about Lomas’ study?

A. He borrowed from many languages for his study.

B. His studied “untranslatable” experiences.

C. His study is called the Positive Lexicography Project.

D. His study focused on sad moments in people’s daily life.

4The word “peiskos” describes the feeling _____.

A. when you push your fingers through a loved one’s hair

B. when you wear or use something for the first time

C. when a long working day comes to an end

D. when you’re sitting around a warm fireplace

【題目】Emma Waston, 26, brings her childhood Disney hero to life. The British actress played the beautiful girl Belle in Disney’s new live-action movie Beauty and the Beast. She also sang for the role, the first time she has done so in her career.

The movie came out on March 17, 2017. It tells how a cursed (被詛咒的) man-beast is changed into a handsome prince by the love of Belle.

To star in the role, Waston turned down the offer of La La Land, which won six awards including the Best Actress at this year’s Oscars. However, she does not regret it. She told Vanity Fair that she believes the movie says something that is important for people to hear.

This is not her first time being invited to play a Disney princess. She refused to offer to play Cinderella. But she happily took on Belle because she saw her as a better role model. Belle doesn’t mind Beast’s ugly appearance and sees his good heart within. “She remains curious, compassionate (富有同情心的) and open-minded,” she told Total Film. “She is not easily changed by other people’s ideas.

But to build her own version of Belle, Waston had a hand in shaping the character. She wanted Belle to be busy instead of just playing in the castle all day. So she had the idea of turning Belle into an inventor, like her father. And Belle even made a washing machine herself, though people broke it. She wanted it to free girls from housework and allow them to learn how to read. She told Entertainment Weekly that people breaking the washing machine was symbolic of people breaking Belle’s spirit and pushing her to become the woman they wanted her to be.
