【題目】閱讀下面的短文,然后根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問(wèn)題。

The Oxford English Dictionary turns 90 this year. The big, fat book is a good friend of your English learning.

But do you know the story of how the famous dictionary was created over a period of 71 years?

The very first edition of the Dictionary started to be developed as an idea in the late 1850s when a group of English language experts (專家) felt the need for such an English dictionary. They wanted a dictionary which would tell the history of each word in the language, based on data (數(shù)據(jù)) showing how each word was actually used at different periods in history. This data collection was done through a London association called the Philological Society in1857.

In 1879, Oxford University Press made preparations for publishing the Dictionary, James Murray was appointed as the new editor(編輯). Murray had never been to university. He was a self-taught language expert. However, he took on a group of helpers, and the work of adding entries(條目) to the Dictionary soon got started Henry Bradley, one of Murray's helpers, was appointed as the Dictionary's second Editor in 1887. Bradley was given the task of editing a separate part of the alphabet (字母表)starting with the letter E. But as time passed, they were fully aware that not even two separate teams were enough. In 1901, William Craigie was appointed as the Dictionary's third Editor, and in 1914 Charles Onions became its fourth Editor. By the time Onions was appointed, the Dictionary was complete as far as the letter S.

It's important to note that the Dictionary didn't finish at Z. It was the letter W that was the last to be finished on April 19, 1928. That was the day on which the first edition of the Dictionary was officially completed.

1How did the Murray learn the language?

2How long did it take to edit the first edition of the Dictionary?

3When did English language experts have the first idea to create the Dictionary?

5Did they finish all the letters in the first edition of the Dictionary?

【題目】 Can you imagine a five-year-old boy writing and playing music on a child-sized violin? This was true of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a gifted boy who grew up to be one of the most creative composers (作曲家) of all time. Then you might think that the life of this child was easy all the time. Read on. Decide for yourself.

Mozart was born in January of 1756 into a musical family. His father, Leopold Mozart, recognized the talent of his child and devoted himself to teaching him. Later, Mozart toured Europe, putting on concerts for the people of high social positions. He could listen to any piece of music once and then play it from memory. He could play the piano or the violin with his eyes covered. What's more, music that Mozart wrote at the age of five was as good as works by many adult composers.

Mozart earned a living by selling his compositions, giving concerts and providing music lessons for the wealthy. Some of the operas Mozart wrote, such as The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni, are still performed today. He composed 41 symphonies(交響樂(lè)). However, none of them earned him much money, and he spent far more than he was able to earn. Mozart often waited until the last moment to work on pieces that had been asked for.

By the spring of 1791, Mozart was ill and sad. He was deeply in debt(債務(wù)). His health, which had never been good, was becoming even worse. A stranger asked Mozart to write a musical piece for a funeral( ). Mozart agreed, but then began to fear that it was being written for his own death. His fears turned out to be true. Mozart died in December of 1791, at the age of 35.
