【題目】

Every morning after breakfast, Wilbur walked out to the road with Fern and waited with her till the bus came. She would wave good-bye to him, and he would stand and watch the bus until it vanished around a turn. While Fern was in school, Wilbur was shut up inside his yard. But as soon as she got home in the afternoon, she would take him out and he would follow her around the place. If she went into the house, Wilbur went, too. If she went upstairs, Wilbur would wait at the bottom step until she came down again. If she took her doll for a walk in the doll carriage, Wilbur followed along. Sometimes, on these journeys, Wilbur would get tired, and Fern would pick him up and put him in the carriage alongside the doll. He liked this. And if he was very tired, he would close his eyes and go to sleep under the doll's blanket. He looked cute when his eyes were closed, because his lashes were so long. The doll would close her eyes, too, and Fern would wheel the carriage very slowly and smoothly so as not to wake her infants.

One warm afternoon, Fern and Avery put on bathing suits and went down to the brook for a swim. Wilbur tagged along at Fern's heels. When she waded into the brook, Wilbur waded in with her. He found the water quite cold--too cold for his liking. So while the children swam and played and splashed water at each other, Wilbur amused himself in the mud along the edge of the brook, where it was warm and moist and delightfully sticky and oozy.

Every day was a happy day, and every night was peaceful.

Wilbur was what farmers call a spring pig, which simply means that he was born in springtime. When he was five weeks old, Mr. Arable said he was now big enough to sell, and would have to be sold. Fern broke down and wept. But her father was firm about it. Wilbur's appetite had increased; he was beginning to eat scraps of food in addition to milk. Mr. Arable was not willing to provide for him any longer. He had already sold Wilbur's ten brothers and sisters.

"He's got to go, Fern," he said. "You have had your fun raising a baby pig, but Wilbur is not a baby any longer and he has got to be sold."

Everyone loves holidays and festivals. But do you know a holiday that is celebrated every month? Yes, it's the only holiday that takes place twelve times a year—Bonza Bottler Day.

Bonza Bottler Day is celebrated once a month when the number of the month is the same as the number of the day (Jun. 1, Feb. 2, March. 3). When the number of the year also matches the number of the day and month (August 8, 2008), there is reason to have a bigger celebration.

Elaine Fermont from America came up with the idea for Bonza Bottler Day on August, 1985. She created it when she realized that there were no special chances to celebrate one month. She decide to give herself a reason to have a party and some fun with this special day every month.

Mrs. Fremont held a competition to give the day a special name, which a student from Australia won. When Australians like something, they might shout,” Bonza!”. The word means super, great or fantastic. And “Bottler"is slang(俚語(yǔ))for something excellent. So the holiday is known as Bonza Bottler Day.

Bonza Bottler Day has no tradition. You are free to do whatever you want. People in offices and hospitals bring food to share. Bonza Bottler Day is a favorite with many schools because it gives a break to students. The holiday can be Candy Day, Ice Cream Day, Be Kind to Classmates Day, No Homework Day, Picnic Day, and the list goes on.

Why not celebrate Bonza Bottler Day in your own ways and have fun?

1Which of the following dates is NOT a Bonza Bottler Day?

A.June 6, 2020B.July 6, 2020.

C.June 6, 2019.D.July 7, 2020.

2According to the article, who named Bonze Bottler Duy?

A.Elaine Fermont.B.The writer.

C.An Australian student.D.Not mentioned in the article.

3Which of the following statements(陳述) about Bonzu Bottler Day is TRUE?

A.It is celebrated when the numbers of the year, the month and the day are the same.

B.Mrs. Fermont created it because she wanted to give herself a reason to organize a competition.

C.The name of the festival had nothing to do with Australian culture.

D.People can do all the things that they like to celebrate it.

【題目】 Every day there is less and less space on Earth for rubbish. Yet every day we make more and more rubbish. What can we do? We can recycle some of our rubbish. Recycling means that the rubbish will be made into something that can be used again.

Recycling helps Earth. And it saves space in rubbish dumps. Half of everything that we put into landfills could be recycled instead. In fact, most things made of paper, metal, glass and plastic can be recycled.

Paper can be broken into small pieces and made into new paper. Steel and aluminum cans(金屬雄)can be melted down(熔化)and made into new cans. The same is true of glass bottles. This can be done aver and over again. Recycling doesn't take as much energy as making these things the first time. So we can use less of Earth's fuel resources.

Plastic can be melted down, too. Then it can be formed into park benches, playgrounds and so on. Some people call plastic the "wood" of the future. Things made of plastic will last about 400 years-even if they stay outside in the weather. No wood can do that!

1The underlined word "landfills" in Paragraph 2 probably means _____________.

A. bench factoriesB. places for rubbish

C. green mountainsD. recycling centres

2According to the passage, what happens last to the can?

A. The can is put into a recycling bin.B. The can is melted down and reused.

C. A steel can gets filled with corn.D. A person uses the corn in the can.

3What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Cans should be melted down.

B. Old newspapers can be reused.

C. We can build benches that last 400 years.

D. We should recycle everything that we can.

【題目】

Alfred Wegener was a scientist in the early 1900s. He had a strange theory. His theory is that 250 million years ago there was one giant continent (). He called the giant continents as Pangaea. He thought Pangaea changed millions of years later. It started breaking up. The continent slowly drifted apart. They became continents we know today.

Wegener made many studies. He looked at world maps and thought that some continents were like puzzle pieces. They could fit together. He went to South America as well as Africa. He looked at mountains on both continents. They would match if the continents were pushed together. Wegener found similar fossils (化石), plants and animals on both continents.

Alfred Wegener called his theory “continental drift”. In 1912, he told other scientists about his theory. Most thought Wegener was crazy. They didn't believe huge pieces of land could move.

Later, other scientists did more studies. They discovered that continents are actually moving all the time. Scientists know that the surface of Earth is not one piece. They think it's broken into large pieces of hard rock called tectonic plates (地殼板塊). Scientists believe there are 30 tectonic plates on Earth and the continents lie on top of them.

Under Earth's surface is the mantle ( 地幔). The mantle is a layer ( ) of rock about 2,900 km thick. The temperature rises to 3, 700C at the bottom of the mantle. The heat causes the mantle to become hot, molten (熔化的) rock which flows around.

The tectonic plates float like rafts on top of the hot, molten rock but they move very slowly-only about 4 inches (10 cm) each year. Since continents lie on top of the tectonic plates, they also float or move.

Today, scientists know the continents are still moving. Alfred Wegener's theory was proved correct.

1What does a theory in the first paragraph mean in this article?

A.An idea based on studies.B.An opinion based on a feeling.

C.A correct answer to a question.D.A wrong answer to a question.

2What was the name of Alfred Wegener's theory?

A.Pangaea.B.Continental drift.C.Tectonic plates.D.Continental plates.

3Where did Alfred Wegener find clues to prove his theory?

A.Only in Africa.B.All over the world.

C.Only in South America.D.In both Africa and South America.

4What did scientists in the early 1900s think about Wegener's theory?

A.They agreed with him.B.They thought it was crazy.

C.They copied his idea right away.D.They gave him praise for it.

5Why do scientists think continents can move?

A.The heat of the tectonic plates causes continents to move.

B.The movement of ocean water causes the continents to move.

C.Continents are huge pieces of land that can be pushed together.

D.Continents lie on top of tectonic plates that float on hot, molten rock.

【題目】

How did the sea horse get its name? It’s not hard to guess. The top half of the fish looks like a small horse.

Sea horses live in warm ocean waters all over the world. There are 32 different kinds of sea horses. Their sizes are quite different from one inch long to about one foot long. Because their fins are small, sea horses swim very slowly. They keep safe from other fish by hiding in plants and grasses. They can also change colours to keep themselves safe. Sea horses feed on live food, such as tiny shrimps. A sea horse has no teeth, so it eats the shrimp whole.

A sea horse keeps the same mate for its whole life, unlike most kinds of fish. And it’s the male sea horse, not the female, which gives birth to baby sea horses. How does this happen? Baby sea horses start out as eggs, which come from the female’s body. But the female places the eggs in the male sea horse’s pouch (育兒袋). The male carries the eggs for about three weeks until they hatch (孵化).

The number of sea horses is becoming smaller. Why is this happening? Some places where sea horses once lived have been filled in to make new land. Also, many sea horses are caught and kept in aquariums (水箱) where they can’t live long. The best place for a sea horse is the ocean. There it can find a mate and bring new sea horses into the world.

1Sea horses do the following things except________to keep themselves safe from other fish.

A.changing coloursB.changing sizes

C.hiding in plantsD.hiding in grasses

2What does a female sea horse do with her eggs?

A.She carries the eggs for about three weeks.

B.She hatches them under the water by herself.

C.She places them in the male sea horse’s pouch.

D.She hides them in plants and grasses in the water.

3What is the best title of the passage?

A.Father Sea HorsesB.All About Sea Horses

C.Kinds of Sea HorsesD.How Sea Horses Grow
