【題目】My hero Dr Norman Bethune
Norman Bethune is one of the most famous heroes in China. He was a Canadian doctor. He came to China to help the Chinese and died for them. Norman Bethune was born in 1890. He became a doctor in 1916 and went to Spain in 1936 to treat the wounded soldiers during the war there. He soon realized that many were dying because they did not get to hospital quickly enough. Dr Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick. He invented special medical tools to use outside hospitals and close to the fighting areas so that doctors could treat the wounded more quickly. His inventions saved many lives.
In 1938, Dr Bethune came to China and helped treat the wounded during the Anti-Japanese War. At that time, there were few doctors, so he had to work very hard on his own. His experience of treating people in Spain was useful in China, He developed training courses for local doctors and nurses and wrote books so that they could learn about how he treated the sick. Dr Bethune often worked very hard without resting or taking care of himself. Once, he even worked for sixty-nine hours without stopping and managed to save over a hundred lives. One day in 1939, he cut his finger during an operation, but he continued his work without treating it. In the end, he died of his wound.

【題目】 In Western countries, some people think the number"13"brings bad luck. In the past, a lot of tall buildings didn't even have a 13th floor. However, there aren't really any other numbers that are special in this way in the West.
There are superstitions (A fa) about some numbers in China as well. For example, the number"4"is said to be unlucky because it sounds like the Chinese word for "death". But that's just one small example of China's superstitions about numbers.
When I first came here. I was surprised to see that many websites had numbers in their names instead of letters. I soon found that this is actually a matter of convenience, as Chinese
characters(漢字)cannot be used for website addresses. They can only use numbers or the letters of the Roman alphabet.
In pinyin, the telecom company Chine Unicom is called Zhongguo Liantong. If the company used their pinyin name for their website address,it would be quite long. So instead, they use their customer service hotline number--10010.com.This is easier to type and remember.
In addition, the pronunciations of some numbers sound similar to other words in Chinese.
This makes for some clever wordplay. For example, the numbers"5-2-0"in Chinese sound similar to the pronunciation of the Chinese phrase" "I love you". Many couples choose to get married on
May 20 for this reason.
It is interesting to see how Chinese people have used numbers in so many different ways.
【1】In the West, there are some other numbers that are like the number”13”
【2】The number"4" sounds like Chinese word for "death".
【3】In China, many websites have Chinese characters in their names
【4】China Unicom doesn't use "Zhongguo Liantong" as its website address because it is too long.
【5】Many couples choose to get married on May 20 because they will love each other more on that day.
