【題目】 What time of day do you feel most alert(清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person? Or does your brain need a few hours to get going? A lot of research suggests that we should pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we are best able to perform, according to the Wall Street Journal.
When it comes to the human brain, many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help speed this up.
But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will rise early and work better early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better toward the end of the day.
Research show that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3pm and 6pm, so it’s better to exercise later in the day.
Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to get distracted (思想不集中的). This is partly because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Research also shows that we become sleepy around 2 pm.
Finally, it is best to eat during our active periods. This allows our body to burn calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.
【1】Many people perform best later in the morning because________.
A.they can’t get up very early.B.they have to take a shower first.
C.the body’s temperature needs time to rise.D.that’s when the brain wakes up.

A.rise early and work in the morning.B.wake later and work better in the evening.
C.rise late and work in the morningD.wake later and work after midnight.
【3】According to the research, which of the following is TRUE?
A.It’s better to do exercise in the afternoon.B.We perform better after eating a big meal.
C.Sleeping at 2 pm is not good for our health.D.Our body burns calories better at night.
【4】What would be the best title for the story?
A.Research about time.B.The best time to do things.
C.Brain performance.D.Different periods of a day.

【題目】 We’ve probably all met someone who likes to show off about where he or she has been. To some people, traveling is all about how many places one has been to. But luckily, the old “been there, seen that” mode is changing.
Last year’s travel trend (趨勢) was “experiential travel”. This is where tourists look for ways to get to know local culture and meet local people so they feel less like an outsider.
So what about this year? Can creative tourists get even more out of their traveling experience?
Transformative travel
Transformative (起改變作用的) travel is much like “experiential travel”, but takes it a step further.
It usually goes through three steps – you go to a place that has a very different background from where you live, you learn wisdom from the new culture and the people you meet, and finally you go back home and use the knowledge in your own lives. This last step is how the “transformation” is completed and what separates transformative travel from experiential travel.
Go green
One way to plan a green trip is to travel a shorter distance, which can reduce your carbon footprint (碳排放量). “One trans-Atlantic flight equals a year’s worth of driving, so taking a trip in this way can help protect the environment,” suggested Warren, according to US News.
Another way to go green in your travel plans is to choose a place that will be helped most from your trip. For example, places like Nepal will enjoy an increase in its local economy (經(jīng)濟(jì)) through the trip.
Disappearing sights
Some sights at risk of disappearing are also welcoming an increasing number of tourists.
Everett Potter, a USA Today writer, says that the Arctic and Antarctic have attracted more and more tourists since they are being greatly influenced by climate (氣候) change.
Another top sight is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It’s believed that the reef will be seriously harmed in just a few years because of pollution and global warming. Travelers look forward to seeing the coral (珊瑚) “before it’s gone or completely changed”, Potter told US News.
The changing travel trends
Before | To some people, traveling means the 【1】 of places they have been to.
Last year | Experiential travel | Tourists look for ways to better understand the local culture so they can be 【2】 like local people. |
This year | Transformative travel | ● Going to a place with a different background. ● Learning wisdom from the new culture and people. ● 【3】 home and using the knowledge in your own lives. |
Go green | ● One way is to travel 【4】 to your home. It can reduce your carbon footprint. ● Another way is to choose a place which will get the most help through the trip.
Disappearing sights | ● The Arctic and Antarctic have become more and more 【5】 because of climate change. ● Travelers expect to see the coral before it is gone or completely changed. |

【題目】 Which is sillier: denying we ever went to the moon or trying to convince the true non-believers?
Once upon a time—July 20, 1969, to be exact—two men got out of their little spaceship and wandered around on the moon for a while. Ten more men walked on the moon over the next three and a half years.
Unfortunately, not quite. A fair number of Americans think that this whole business of moon landings really is fairy tale. They believe that the landings were a big hoax (騙局) staged in the Mojave Desert, to convince everyone that U.S. technology was the “best” in the whole wide world.
Which is the harder thing to do: Send men to the moon or make believe we did? The fact is that the physics behind sending people to the moon is simple. You can do it with computer whose entire memory capacities can now fit on chips the size of postage stamps and that cost about as much as, well, a postage stamp, I know you can because we did.
However, last fall NASA considered spending $15,000 on a public-relations campaign to convince the unimpressed that Americans had in fact gone to the moon. That idea was mostly a reaction to a Fox television program, first broadcast in February 2001, that claimed to expose the hoax. The show’s creator is a publicity hound (獵狗) who has lived up to the name in more ways than one by hounding Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. Mr. X (as I will call him, thereby denying him the joyous sight of his name in prim) recently followed Buzz Aldrin around and called him “a thief, liar and coward” until the 72-year-old astronaut finally lost it and hit the 37-year-old Mr. X in the face.
Anyway, NASA’s publicity campaign began to slow down. The non-believers took the campaign as NASA’s effort to hide something while the believers said that $15,000 to convince people that the world was round—I mean, that we had gone to the moon—was simply a waste of money, (Actually, the $15,000 was supposed to pay for an article by James E. Oberg, an astronomy writer who, with Aldrin, has contributed to Scientific American.)
If NASA’s not paying Oberg, perhaps it could put the money to good use by hiring two big guys to drag Neil Armstrong out of the house. Armstrong is an extremely private man, but he is also the first man on the moon, So maybe he has a duty to be a bit more outspoken about the experience. Or NASA could just buy Aldrin a commemorate plaque (紀(jì)念匾) for his recent touch on the face of Mr. X.
【1】We can learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3 that some Americans believe __________.
A.moon landings were inventedB.U.S. technology was the best
C.moon landing ended successfullyD.the Mojave Desert was the launching base
【2】According to the writer, which of the following is responsible for the story about the hoax?
A.NASA’s publicity campaign.B.The Fox television program.
C.Buzz Aldrin.D.James E. Oberg.
【3】The tone of the article is __________.
A.angryB.happyC.humorousD.matter-of-fact
