【題目】 It is late at night. A car stops in the middle of a forest. After dropping off their three teenagers, the parents say "good luck" and drive away.1.

It may sound crazy to you, but this is a special tradition in the Netherlands(荷蘭) called “dropping”. Dutch(荷蘭的) people believe that children should not depend too much on their parents.2American parenting writer Lenore Skenazy said, “When you let children out doing some things by themselves, all the good things happen -the self-confidence and happiness."

Although the Dutch enjoy this tradition, other people think it's a bad idea. 3“I don't think it's a nice thing for kids," said one parent from the US. “It's late and long and kids might be scared."

People have many different opinions about parenting. 4They worry too much about their children and pay attention to everything they do - like something flying over their children. In their eyes, children need to be protected all the time.

What is a good parenting style? An American Parenting expert kenneth Ginsburg says “5”. As Ginsburg writes “parents should make sure their children don't crash (碰撞) against the rocks, yet allow them to ride the waves, even if they get a little choppy (波濤洶涌的) sometimes”.

A. Some parents don't think it is responsible (負(fù)責(zé)任的) parenting.

B. The teenagers, totally lost, have to find their way back home by themselves.

C. And they should learn how to solve problems through activities like “dropping”.

D. Good parents need to find a balance between protecting their children and letting go.

E. The teenagers have fun singing and dancing together and don't want to go back home.

F. In China, some parents try too hard and become "helicopter parents”, which is basically the opposite of "dropping”.

【題目】 At times we all get angry when we are driving. It might be because we are stuck in a traffic jam or behind a very slow driver. It might be because we think another driver has done something very stupid and dangerous. Whatever the reason is, it seems that getting angry in a car is something that happens more and more often and there is now a special term for itroad rage. Some experts even think it is a kind of mental illness! How can we recognize (識別) this “illness” of road rage?

There are two kinds of road rage: aggressive (侵略的) driving and aggressive reactions(反應(yīng)) to the way other people are driving. Aggressive driving can take different forms:

Driving much faster than the speed limit.

Increasing your speed very quickly.

Changing driving ways very suddenly and blocking another car.

Moving into a parking space where another car is trying to park.

There are also different reactions to the way other people are driving. These include:

Making rude signs at others.

Shouting at others and threatening them.

Driving into another person’s car on purpose.

Hitting somebody.

Road rage is certainly not a joke. There have been incidents (嚴(yán)重事件) because of road rage which have led to serious injuries (重傷) and even deaths.

Experts think that one reason for road rage is that films show a lot of examples of fast and aggressive driving such as car chases. Experts also think that the punishments for dangerous driving are not serious enough. In the UK in the last 30 years, the police have been quite successful in reducing the number of people who drink and drive. They are now working to stop people using mobile phones when they are driving. Let’s hope they can have the same success with the road rage.

1What does the underlined word “It” refer to?

A.Being stuck in a traffic jam.B.Being stuck behind a very slow driver.

C.Getting angry with traffic lights.D.Getting angry when driving.

2What’s “road rage” according to the passage?

A.A form of getting angry.B.A person who drives fast.

C.A kind of traffic jam.D.An action of driving slowly.

3What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?

A.Aggressive driving is much worse than aggressive reactions.

B.Road rage can be controlled without any punishments for the drivers.

C.The accidents caused by using mobile phones have been reduced successfully.

D.The police will be able to do a lot to deal with road rage in the future.

4What would be the best title for the passage?

A.How to Deal with Road Rage.B.Road Rage.

C.Aggressive Driving.D.Changing Your Driving Habits.

【題目】 How do you “l(fā)augh" when chatting with friends on the Internet? Is it "haha"1 "hehe"? In Thailand, people use "555" to express2 (they) laughter. What other different ways do people use around the world?

It has been quite a long time since people3(start) to use online expressions. Some common expressions of laughter include LOL, meaning laughing out loud, and ROFL, rolli ng on the floor laughing. You can see the influence4 these expressions everywhere. LOL5(include) in Oxford English Dictionary in 2011.

In fact, most languages follow the rule that they have similar sounds. Sometimes, numbers or 6 (letter) in one language sound very different in another. “555" sounds like a person7(cry) in Chinese, but like laughter in Thai. This is because8 number 5 is pronounced “ha" in Thai. “Jaja” is the Spanish way of 9(write) "haha”. In Spanish, "j" is pronounced like the English "h". Isn’t it funny to find these10(interest) ways to “l(fā)augh"?
